Iceland

With all of Iceland's economic woes, it seems that NOW is the time to visit if you've been thinking about it. I wish neorxnawang and I could magically assemble funds and babysitters and fly over there again to see their autumn.

Speaking of things Icelandic, we attended a local author's book signing at "Roxy's Reads and Remnants" in Amherst. Douglas Kane just published his first book in a trilogy about magical Icelandic horses, and he brought his Icelandic horse to the book signing! We patted her while she stood in the shade on the sidewalk next to his table. She was very small - only about five feet tall - but he said that Icelandic horses' bones are three times more dense than other breeds. They're very sturdy, and friendly, and they don't spook.

Now, I'm afraid of horses, but this little lady was so sweet and calm. She had HUGE brown M&M-colored eyes with long fluttery eyelashes. She was milk chocolate, but her mane and tail were almost red. I have a picture of the stepgirls Stewie and Miss Cake next to the horse, and everyone has the same red hair! (Chipsie did NOT like the horse. She's never seen one in person before and cried while I took her picture. Yep, there's another one for the album.)
