Morning Dramatics

Quite an odd morning today.

Well, and an odd start to the week. Let's rewind a bit further. I got home on Sunday night from dinner with Blanca (which was LOVELY) around 11:30, was completely wired and couldn't sleep, so I stayed up until nearly 12:30 before finally passing out…and I decided that, since it was so late, I'd let myself drive to work on Monday morning instead of taking the bus downtown like I normally do. So I set my alarm to let myself sleep in a bit, went to bed…slept very fitfully…and then woke up at 5:58 am (two minutes before my normal alarm). I got up, because it's time to get up. Was halfway through my pre-shower routine before I realized that I was going to let myself sleep in. lol. Oops.

So I drove to work, went through my work day as normal yesterday, left work on time to get to campus before the bookstore closed at 5pm, because I wanted to FINALLY pick up a copy of Microsoft Office for my laptop, as well as Jimmy Eat World tickets (yay!) and my last couple of textbooks for fall quarter. Took care of those things (also picking up a clearance Sherman Alexie book for fun, even if I won't be reading it for about a year, most likely), and then back in the car, called the ex-crazy roommate, and went over to her place to pick up my vacuum and handle the very last roommate details. Hopefully I can finally say now that I never have to see her again!

Left the old apartment complex, and called Jen, because we were going to run errands together, and I figured since I was in her part of town I could just pick her up. I had a feeling that if I went home I would just collapse and not want to go out anymore. So I pick up Jen, we drive BACK to Sacramento, go to Target as planned. Then somehow end up at Sports Authority (I got a clearance A's hat for $1), and Off Broadway Shoes, Mongolian BBQ for dinner, and suddenly it's after 8pm, and we're heading back to Davis, and I haven't been home from work yet. Lol. LONG, strange night, but not bad at all. Fun shopping - I got a bunch of stuff for my new bathroom. Plus arch supports for my chucks. Lol.

So Jen informs me while we're out that our plans for tonight (as in today, tonight) for pizza and beer with friends, has suddenly become an afternoon excursion instead of a night out. Because people want to see their boyfriends. *rolls eyes* So tonights plans become 4:30pm plans, and I don't get off the bus until 5:30, so I end up having to drive in today too in order to make our plans.

So once again, I go to bed last night (this time reasonably early), set my alarm for sleeping in a bit. And this time it works. I sleep in a bit this morning. Get up. Shower. Get dressed. (Wear chucks). Leave for work about 7:15, which is a little later than normal. Usually when I drive I get to work around 7:30, even though I don't need to be in until 8ish. Apparently I'm braindead, because I forget to let my car warm up before leaving, and when my car is cold it has issues shifting into 4th gear.

So I get on the freeway, and I can't shift into 4th gear. And I'm going about 55 and feeling like a complete ass, so I get off the freeway, decide to take the campus loop to the freeway on the other side. My car should be warm by the time I get back on. Only…there's construction on the campus loop. So I'm following this construction-tractor-thing through the construction detour….and he just stops. In the middle of the road. I can't see around him. I can't turn around because we're in a coned off area. I'm completely stuck. So I sit there, and 2 or 3 songs go by on my radio. And I'm mildly freaking out 'cause this dude is just SITTING there…when he starts to move, and I realize…there's a freaking flagger ahead. The road is down to one lane and there were no signs TELLING me that. So I was flipping out and it was typical construction stuff.

So I keep going, my car is thoroughly warmed up by now…and I get on the freeway. Traffic is a little bitchy…just uneven speeds, lots of cars. I get downtown, and I am *aware* of the fact that my typical exit to take the Tower Bridge downtown is supposed to be closed right now, but unlike the last time the bridge was closed, this time there's no signs saying anything about it. So I figure it hasn't closed down yet, and take the exit (because the freeway is slowing to a stop the other way that I can go). So I get off, and, what do you know, the bridge is closed. So I follow the detour signs for about a mile only to end up…back on the freeway, the next entrance AFTER I got off. In traffic. Of course. So I sit in the traffic after another waste of time detour. Get off downtown. Get to work. Park. Am late enough that my usual parking area is full. Park on the 5th floor instead of the 2nd. Am pissed off and completely irritable.

Wait for the elevator. Get in the elevator. Doors start to close. Random hand sticks in. Forces elevator open. Didn't see person coming. Kind of glare at person, because I'm annoyed. I want to go. And she's holding the door for someone else (who takes the stairs). Finally we go. Elevator starts moving. She looks down. "Oh my God, I love your chucks!" *bliss* My day is made. Lol. Person ends up working in my building, so we walk to work and have a laugh the way there. Suddenly day is looking up. (a bit…)

But it was a strange and obnoxious drive in, and work seems strange and obnoxious so far too. And I have a feeling today will be a strange and obnoxious day. *sigh*
