I can do this in muffin tins, right? Because this would be spectacular as muffins. One of the foods Geordie misses most from the UK is baked appley things (because granny smith aren't quite right; the preferred baking apple there is the Bramley Apple.).
I wish I could find old fashioned pippin apples around here.
(However, in hunting around for Bramley links, I found out that there's a farm nearish to us that does grow them, so I will be able to have some this autumn! Yay!)
Any baking apple should work beautifully. I've not heard of the Bramley ones though. Have to check. Muffin tins would work just fine I would think. If they're smaller than 6oz, then you'll have more than 8 of them. But how could that be a bad thing?
I definitely have to try this in the fall when apple season is here. I'm sure those fresh ones would really pop then. Not that this was bad at all.
Oh, and if you're a coffee drinker, the left over whiskey cream is awesome in your morning coffee :)
The Bramley is almost too bitter to eat, when raw, but it sweetens and becomes fluffy and light when cooked. It's really odd and very delicious, and for a long time was only available in the UK. There are only about two or three places (which is more than the zero we'd previously known about!) in the US that grow them!
I'm going to try with nice, fresh Granny Smiths, I think. And I'll just end up with a lovely dozen muffins, which can only be a good thing.
I'll let you know how the Bramleys work when I get them.
Excellent. Now these are more on the line of an upside down pineapple cake. Once you turn them out onto a plate, the bottom in not muffin'ized. LOL look a new word.
The crustyish top in really only on the top. Or at least mine was, as our room temperature was about 58 F. If it were a slight be softer it may have been a little more battery.
