I'm thinking I'm going to make it for when my sis and her kids are visiting -- it's a bit more than one person can eat alone unless having it for dinner several nights. *g* So the visit is a good excuse.
sounds yum. Will def be trying this. Re: Triscuit flavor, a friend brought over Rye Triscuits to have with Brie, and it was Amazing. Highly recommended. ;D
Just regular yellow onion, not red or sweet or anything. That's what I always have around so it's the default onion for any of my recipes, unless another sort is specified.
I use low-fat Triscuits which for my money taste exactly the same as the regular ones. Rye would doubtless be good too.
I make this with smoked canned salmon and no liquid smoke. Also, I use finely chopped green onion instead of regular. It's always the first dip to vanish at pot lucks. Wonderful!
I got the recipe when touring a salmon fishery in Alaska 20 years ago and they were giving it away with samples to sell their canned smoked salmon. I can't always find smoked canned salmon here in Nebraska. Now, I'll be trying your version next time I can't get the smoked kind locally.
Oh good! Hope it works for you. My grandmother claims that the recipe originally had horseradish in it, but that's not how my mom remembers it, and neither my mom nor I has ever put that in... *g* I bet green onion would be good, yes. Milder probably.

May even have to try it with this spread. Yum.
Preference as to onion color?
