I get my eggplant at the local Asian grocery, usually - theirs is the long skinny kind and is usually quite good, better than the standard sort at the regular grocery tends to be (esp. at this time of year). But yeah, still definitely better in season!

We usually grow the Japanese eggplant. It's almost cut to size for you:)

Yep. Those I usually just split in half lengthwise, and it's all good.
