so i really don't like this professor or this class. and I'm not a big fan of the online thing and that stinks like a bunch of rotten tomatoes cuz i have to take several more next year. it's hit or miss. i either nail the assignment and do exactly what she wants and she comments on how clever i am or i miss miserably and she suggests i read the directions better next time. thankfully i'm usually nailing it but there have been a couple times when i didn't and that's frustrating. i'm really afraid my latest essay will be one of those misses considering i used part of my last assignment (after she suggested with do just that) but just found out today i got a 7/10 on that assignment. my essay was due last night. it would have been nice to know that yesterday.
the worst part about this class is well, i don't feel like i'm being taught for one thing. i read an assignment online, read a chapter or two in a book, type a couple hundred words, wait a 4 days or so and get 2-3 sentences of praise/criticism on what i said and then start the cycle all over. the other thing is that i can never seem to get a hold of the teacher when i need her and when i do hear from her it's too late to fix anything. if i ask for clarification on an assignment i don't hear back until after the assignment is due and it's usually when she's grading it and her telling me what's wrong with it and how i didn't seem to understand the assignment correctly. it's REALLY annoying.
at trinity i always thought that you say what you have to say and that's your paper. if you go leak over the length limit by a paragraph, no biggie. pretty darn simple. no need to rewrite the assignment in your paper or anything just don't make gramatical errors and support you point with quotes. not hard. you get an A. in this class, if you go over by 100 words you get a point off (which is really like 10 percentage points since almost everything is out of ten). so most of the time you have around 250 words max and she wants you to use quotations from two sources and sometimes if you don't specifically point out which part of the assignment you're answering she'll say you didn't answer that part of the assignment. if your directions say find and example of issue "a" i never thought i had to annouce "an example of issue a is..." especially if your whole assignment is on issue "a." why waste six of the few valuable words I've got? and on tp of all this i still have no idea what the grading scale is. so that 7/10 might be a C or it might be an D. i really don't know. and i don't know how to ask other than to do what i did which was message her saying "what is the grading scale for this class? is it the one on the syllabus of the one on the website?" So I have no idea because she never answered me. so after i put the MLA heading on the top of my paper it ran on the 5th page but i didn't notice until after i had sent it. she said 3-4 pages so i'm worried i'm already behind. they said this was the hardest english class at ucf but it really wouldn't be so hard if it wasn't handled so ridiculously. oh well, it'll all be over soon.
in other news, my computer broke (conveniently in the middle of my online class, haha that could only happen to me) so i haven't updated in a while. but we have a new one and it's pretty nice. i've been pretty busy. i sat down and made up a to do list the other day and it has 52 items on it. make that 53 i have to take my midterm tomorrow. and so far i've been crossing off about 1 or 2 things a day. so i guess i'll be at this all summer, haha. i have everything from bathing the dogs to designing a shelf for all our dvds on it.
somewhere between trying to cut about 300 words out of my paper, i got a tv in my room. it doesn't really look right i don't think. we had to put it on my desk. so now i don't have a desk, not that i had much of one to begin with. but it's pretty nice, after i turned in my paper i crawled into bed and watched a jean arthur and charles colbourn movie that was really cute.
friday i worked on my new dress, i was pretty proud of myself but mom thinks the pattern doesn't fit right. so she thinks we should cut pack the sleeves (which i wanted to do anyway) and take out all the darts and resew them to better fit me and possibly add some material in some places and recut the neckline. which is quite a bit of work considering i already sewed all the darts and such. but i think it'll be an adorable picnic or swing dress. Here's what the pattern looks like (the contrasting black and white one) and the material i used is green with big daisies where the black is and like a beige color in the white part. and then i plan on sewing matching gloves and getting a big straw hat and tieing green ribbons with some daisies on top. anyways, back to the to do list!
you always hurt the one you love, the one you shouldn't hurt at all.
you always take the sweetest rose and crush it til the pedals fall.
you always break the kindest heart with a hasty word you can't recall.
so if i broke your heart last night it's because i love you most of all!
