OR obeservation day # 5

I ambitiously waited for my superiors to come in and show me the rounds for today, on a bad note,my status was shoved down quite a bit because there were the new medical students that i first introduced in my entry yesterday, long story short, they're fresh out of school and their currrently on their first rotation and needed all the guidance they can get.I watched a TOTAL left breast masectomy , it was on this 63 year old black woman who was kind of fat. We got right down to the pectoralis muscle after her fat breast was removed. It was intresting! Then a bunch of lymph nodes were removed ,it was intresting , i think it were cancerous, they scanned it with some metallic rod that made some funky synthezing sounds and numbers that went really high, which meant something was wrong. I'll find out tomorrow. On the plus side of things i learned that the highest occurence of a cholestyasdaeije umm (Gallbladder Removal) is a person meeting the criteria of the 4F's, (FAT FOURTY FERTILE FEMALE) , the 2nd thing i was how to suture , using the interupted stitch technique , which is needle through the outside the skin and through the wound ,leaving a tail of the stitching behind then you go into wound the through the skin ..then the tricky part was knoting it ,which might sound easy or complicated pending on how i word it, so to knot it up was to tie 2 loops around these scicssor-like forceps and grab the tail of the stitch needle that was left hanging there for this very purpose andpull it through the 2 loops you just made, make sure the knotting stays on one side, then from loop it ONCE (instead of twice)in the opposite direction and do the whole pulling it through the loop/hole process over again, the repeat process 2-3 times, then you measure up the 2 ends and snip it right above the know with precision. angling the scissors at a 45 degree angle and snipping the ends away. I learned how to wrap this elastic bands around the arm to test blood pressure and as for the funky instrument that made all the sounds in the masectomy , i think it was called Neoscan, which i read up on here
