the conversation that wasn't

My mother is on a road trip, and of course still refers to her mobile phone as a "carphone".

She calls me Wednesday morning (early), Thursday morning (early), and Friday morning (early). All calls come in to my mobile phone, which is really annoying at work, considering I have no obvious restrictions about taking personal calls at work, I have a headset attached to my work phone, mobile-to-mobile calls in the U.S. still aren't very clear, and I can't do anything but hold the phone and talk to her when she calls on my mobile.

There's also no confusion that she might think I'm not at work. I work from home, and I start at 6:00. She knows all of this -- it's not a new situation and nothing has changed recently.

So on Friday morning at the end of the call, I say, "Mom -- you know if you called on my work line, I could talk to you longer, right?" "Oh! Really? I didn't call your work number? Wait -- oh -- what -- I -- oh -- I guess your carphone is the first one I have programmed for you."

uh-huh

Guess what woke me up on Saturday morning at 7:07? My work phone ringing.
