Generalized Welcome Post

Welcome to Convert_Me!

Thanks for accepting the challenge. You're sure to find plenty of people willing to chime in on your beliefs. Maybe some of them will present you with some ideas you hadn't thought of before. Just try to remember that we're all here to learn. If you like, you can read about common topics and various belief system descriptions over on the supplemental convert_me wiki. After your challenge, feel free to add yourself to the User Information Page.

Before you go on your happy converting way, please read a few quick points.

Point One: Know the Rules

The community only has a few rules, and ignorance is no excuse. You can read all about them on the user info page. In case you don't care to, here's the quick version:
  • Be Respectful. We can't have meaningful discussion if we're stuck calling each other names.
  • No Redos. Don't delete *anything*, and don't screen comments in your posts.
  • No Junk. Don't spam the list, especially with material that is inappropriate for minors.
  • No Whining. The community doesn't need to hear about your problems, take it up with a mod (see below).
Keep in mind that this list is only a quick introductory treatment. You are responsible for obeying the rules as they are spelled out on the actual user info page.

Point Two: Know the Enforcers

Just kidding, we're all hippy-commune-equals here. Only some of us are more equal than others. It helps to know which people are capable of hammering you.
Supreme power lies with the founders of the community, t_h_mitchell and foolking. They have the last say on issues, and are the only ones who can issue bans (more on this later).
Non-Supreme power lies with the demi-mods, who are largely here to help the mods deal with the sheer size of our community. They are, in order of geographic distance from iceland: lowk, xeyro, pturing, busbeytheelder, pooperman, and carl_sagan.
Better-than-you power rests in the hands of the demi2-mods - largely due to the sporadic nature of mod and demi-mod activity. While capable of dealing with 6-dimensional problems, they are currently limited to 3 for obvious reasons (no, they don't do depth). As a formal listing of Betti numbers, they are 2, kentox, gleef, 1, 0, 1, gundamtsubasa, 0, 0, 0, ...

You may notice that this listing isn't up to date. That's because I'm lazy. Lazy inspired power comes from the mouths of lovethelogos and heptadecagram, our mod3 and mod4 respectively. Let's not get into the details of what we get from mod5 midwinterspring.

Point Three: Know the Consequences

If someone on convert_me is making your stay miserable (in a manner that violates the rules), please contact a demi-mod or mod (preferably the former). You should formally make your complaints by replying to the complaint gathering post over in the mods_demi_mods community.

If the demi/mods agree that the offender has offended in violation of the community rules, a warning will be issued. Anyone accrueing Three (3) Warnings within a six (6) month period will be banned for a set amount of time. The exact amount of time is a complex formula, closely held as a trade secret by the mods and demi-mods of convert me. I don't want to go the full 38 special, so I'll just say you'll be banned for approximately six (6) Earth months. Unless you've just recently come off of a banning. At that time, triggering the gaze of the great eye will mean a ban of approximately fifty-two (52) EARTH weeks. Doing anything after that I'll have to work out a ban in terms of hours - and I don't think either of us want me to do that. One thing I can say is that we will not issue a permanent banning, as some fancy the community management as more merciful than god (#4.1).

Please do not make a post to the community about the issue. This is considered Whining In a Bad Way, and will get you a warning.
