.....especially when there is no snow in sight. What a lame winter. Skiing in the east is practically dead. VT is probably the only place worth going to. Despite that it is four days after Christmas, I'm still going to mention how it went for the Wheeler family.
As usual, we went to the evening mass on Christmas Eve. There was one thing that made that sermon awesome (don't take that the wrong way, I rarely go to church [my family has become "seasonally active" as Christians, going on Christmas and Easter] and I don't get excited about attending mass). It was this cute little tyke that was in the kid's choir. As far children's choirs go, this year sounded exactly like the kindergartners from South Park in that Thanksgiving pageant episode, the one with the snobbish turkey and Gobbles. Amongst the singing, or lack thereof, this little kid was frequently waving to the crowd in that little kid way, the arm extended straight in front and only the hand shakes back and forth from the wrist. All of the kids were given those electric candles you put on window sills, and this little kid was enjoying his candle far more than the songs they were singing. To and fro, up and down up and down, right arm out swinging in circles, and on the verge of going up his nose. People were doing their best to suppress their laughter, but you can only hold it back so much. I wish more Christmas services were like that.
The bulk of my gifts were music and money, which is fine I guess. I didn't really have a lengthy wish-list this year, so it's no big deal. The lack of snow certainly made this Christmas feel less festive, less.....Christmasy. I made sure to get my family some nice gifts, and everybody seemed to be quite pleased with what I gave them, so hurray for that.
So far I've done absolutely nothing this vacation with old friends. I haven't even really gotten out that much. Sarah came up to visit the first week of vacation, and from there my days have consisted of getting out to run, and Counter-Strike. I need a life. And for some reason I can't seem to get out of this pattern of staying up late reading or futzing around on my computer, and it has resulted in my waking up at 2 pm once or twice......not so good.
I think I've finally made up my mind about what I'm going to do next year. At the beginning of the year I was thinking I would head off to St. Mike's next year as planned. Then at some point my mom wondered if I would want to do another semester at NHTI, and then do a semester abroad with either NOLS or St. Mike's. Up until a few days ago I was considering the two options, and then decided that the original plan would probably be for the better. The St. Mike's abroad program in Australia will wait until junior year I guess. So it goes.
After several people have hassled me about getting a facebook, I finally gave in. So now I have one, and I wonder how much I'll actually use it. I'm listed as Mike W. if you feel kind enough, or maybe even want to, add me.
2006 is coming to a close, and it's been a pretty good year for me, although the world still has it's growing list of problems I guess, but one can always hope for the better. That's about all for now I guess.
