Respiratory infection in kittens?

Aug 03, 2004 22:06

Know anything about it? I picked up one of the newest batch of Mama Kitty's kittens a few minutes ago, and one of the eyes was matted closed. (insert oath of frustration here.) I thought they were old enough to be past this. Means they will all probably die within the next week or so. (insert more oaths). She had this bunch in the closet, then moved them under Mom's bedside table, then into the kitchen yesterday. They were fine then.

Vet says it is a respiratory infection, and nothing can be done for it. We have already lost at least one batch of her kittens earlier this year to the same thing. It first showed up a few years ago. Once the kittens get it, might as well say bye-bye :(. I have seen it kill a bigger kitten within minutes.

I have given up gotten attached to any of the kittens that we have period, but Mom's such a softy. She really fought for the last one, but he died anyway :(.

I guess I am officially ranting, but it would be so nice to get rid of whatever causes this for once and for all. Or is it genetic? I have wondered about that too.
