Theano's Day

I am a day late, oops.

Theano's Day is an annual celebration of female philosophers.

My favorite female philosophers include Heloïse, the brilliant abbess who died in 1164. She knew several languages, and raised her son in while first a nun, a prioress, and an abbess. She was deserted and eventually spurned by her husband, the latter possibly to save his own skin. Considering the times, she handled her situation very well.

Another is Hildegard of Bingen, who was also a Catholic nun. She was musical and superior with writing, letters, speeches, and so forth. She was also scientific and the author of several such texts. A true polymath, as Wikipedia describes her.

I also admire Mary Wollstonecraft. She too was involved in dire situations, and was a learned novelist and writer who was not afraid to state her opinions.

There are many great female philosophers, but these are the ones that I think of first.
