I nearly broke my nose doing something similar. Unlike your mom, mine was pissed that I had done something so stupid, and considered waiting until my father got home from work to deal with it... except that he worked as a surgical assistant for an ENT - Ear Nose Throat - specialist.

She took me to his office, rather than the ER, so they could deal with it.

And it isn't until my writing this that I wonder... maybe we didn't have health insurance growing up. That would explain a lot about my mother's annoyance whenever I (and it was always me, except once) got hurt.

Awww! No fair! :-) Excellent writing though; it made me feel like I was there, and if I had been, I'd have given her a tiny little push off the top of that hill. (laugh)
