Japanese Language Proficiency Test

So I finally took the Japanese Language Proficiency Test last weekend. It was a mish mash of feelings. Nervous and excited, cos it been more than a year since I last sat for an academic exam. A tad weird cos I'm taking the exam in a girls' school. Not too much of worry though, because I did not opt for a higher level paper. Had already foreseen I would neither have time nor too much discipline to park my ass in front of the study table to mug. :p

The last time I went to Nanyang Girls' was to conduct some life science program during my vacation in my uni days. Could more or less recognise the place. By the time I reached almost everyone was seated. I was quite amused to find myself allocated a seat beside some upper primary school kids. There were middle aged adults in the class room thankfully. That sort of calmed some the why-the-heck-am-I-sitting-for-the-same-exam-as-some-kiddos!! feeling.

The exam had three parts, separated by 20 min interval: Writing and Vocabulary (25 min); Listening (25 min); Reading and Grammar (50 min). Seeing the question paper flipped backwards and the MCQ answer sheet really reminded me of taking papers in NUS, except this time, instead of placing my matric card at the corner of my table, it was a test voucher with my photo.

Announcement came on the PA. Print your name in capital letters, remember to write registration number, don't cheat.. yada yada... Then came the instruction to begin. I always felt like the candidates are horses digging their heels into the sand behind the electric fence waiting for the moment it opens to lunge forward in a mad dash for the finishing line.

The first paper was alright, but I was quite intrigued with some of the sentence structures questioned. Thought it was slightly beyond the level that should be tested.

I usually get a little cold feet with listening comprehension. It's like, once you missed what was said, that's it! You are left guessing what is the correct answer. Whilst I remained attentive, I was a little distracted by the lady voice... damn sexy!!!

I think I fared the best for the last section. Not much of a problem.

Overall it's an interesting experience to relive. Let's see how I fare when the results are out, then I would decide if I should take the next level next year!
