My €100 Lesson

I really can't believe I fell for it. Travelled so many places, never let my guard down, but this time?!

It felt so easy, so fun. These group of people were gathering along the street playing a game of bet. 3 match boxes, 1 ball, guess its location, double return.

I was really facinated initially, just watching on. It just felt so doable. Someone by my side egged me on, and in good fun I thought why not. It happened so quickly, all of €100 (approximately S$200) lost in 5 minutes. I wanted to end on the first, but the same girl just pushed me to go the second time. I did. The gang was gone as fast as my money. I stood there, dumbfounded, cursing at the dimwit I am.

When I could finally think straight, I questioned myself if it was greed that made me gave in. I don´t know. I probably don´t need that extra money, but there´s just this lure to gambling somehow. I just succumbed. I deserve it.

Well the consolation is at least this is better than losing my wallet on the last day of my stay in Barcelona.

I will get over it, but I will NEVER forget it. Two important lessons I learnt as a young adult:

Lesson 1. There is no reason for you not to trust strangers. Neither is there any for you to do so.

Lesson 2. When you gamble you always lose. Purge the word "luck" from your vocabulary. It is an fleeting entity that never puts God in the equation.

I am telling myself this is good education. One that comes at a price of €100.
