Feedback: is adored, folded up, and kept in pocket for rainy days.

Orlando dangled his legs in the water, the wind blowing his hair around his face. He stared out across the water, lounging on the dock, still in costume. The sun began to sink into the ocean, a wash of red and gold and orange and pink across the horizon.

The slats of the dock creaked behind him, and he turned, seeing Johnny walking up, boots discarded and pants rolled to the knees, sitting beside Orlando and sliding his own feet into the cool water of the ocean.

"It's beautiful," Orlando said, in a dreamy sort of tone.

"Yes," Johnny agreed, his voice far less dreamy. Orlando didn't look at him, but just continued staring out across the water. Orlando heard Johnny move, the beads and trinkets clinking around in his hair. Orlando smiled, looking away from the setting sun and down at the blue-green water beneath them.

"What?" Orlando heard Johnny ask.

"Nothing," Orlando said. Johnny was suddenly touching Orlando's hair, sliding fingers through dark strands. Orlando sighed, and leaned toward Johnny. Then the older man stood.

"I'm going for a drink," Johnny said. He walked back to where his costume boots sat, and picked them up, before walking away.

Orlando sighed, and looked back out at the sun, sunk below the horizon, leaving only a pale wash of pink and yellow across the endless blue of the sea.

and the second half:

The slats of the dock creaked as Johnny approached Orlando, barefoot and his pants rolled up, and the boy turned around and looked at him as he sat down beside Orlando, putting his feet into the ocean.

"It's beautiful," Orlando said, and his voice was as dreamy as usual, and Johnny watched him, dark lashes flashing over tanned cheeks.

"Yes," Johnny agreed with him, but he wasn't talking about the sunset, or the ocean. He was watching the young man beside him. Then he turned away, casting a glance at the sunset, and enjoying the sound of his hair clinking and rattling as he moved. It amused him. He saw Orlando look down, at their feet dangling into the water below the dock.

"What?" Johnny asked, again watching the boy.

"Nothing," said Orlando. Johnny reached out and slid his fingers through Orlando's hair, soft strands tangling around Johnny's fingers. Orlando sighed, and Johnny wanted to kiss him, even as the younger man leaned closer to Johnny. But he wouldn't, couldn't, even if he wanted it. So Johnny stood.

"I'm going for a drink," Johnny said, and went to where his boots lay, picking them up and walking away across the beach.

Best to put distance between himself and unhealthy desire, he thought.
