In Xena fandom, there are two primary camps: shippers (Xena/Ares) and subtexters (Xena/Gabrielle). This fic takes on both. Taking place after Season 6's "Old Ares Had a Farm", Ares finds himself as a human trying to navigate the human experience, while Xena is torn between her love for Gabrielle and her attraction and responsibility she feels towards a now-vulnerable Ares. Love triangles are hard to pull off, but I found myself feeling for everyone involved the situation; most especially for Gabrielle, who is put in a very difficult and unfair position. Everyone is sympathetic in their own way, and this fic permanently threw me in the bitexter camp.
