Dress Code in United's First Class? GAITHERSBURG, Md. - A corporate executive with electronic retail giant Best Buy says a United Airlines gate agent denied him a seat in the first class cabin because he was wearing a track suit.
Alvarez said the gate agent called his name and when he walked up to the counter for his upgrade, the agent said he was dressed too casually for first class.
How ridiculous is this? Afaik, there is no dress code for paying passengers, beyond the standard "no shoes, no shirt, no service" and oh, the non-standard hideous thing of "don't wear legends or drawings on your shirt or other clothing or accessories that could possibly upset any other passenger", by which I mean anything in Arabic script, the word "fuck", or a the image of a gun. But a track suit? Isn't that new American business casual de rigeur? Have you flown lately? First Class is a not a fashion house, United Airlines. I hope you are mightily embarrassed over this and have to pay out plenty. I hope that gentleman has some free First Class travel coming his way tout de suite!
