We did two shows back to back last night, 8pm and 11pm, and it was pretty much a piece of cake. First show had a hot audience, there to have a good time, which was an awesome warm up for the second show, and we wanted warm, because we play with the doors open and it chilled down into the 40s or low 50s, last night, I'm guessing. Low temps and wet costumes and water filled gum boots require special fortitude. I mostly chill and help people dress in the second act, in the warm dressing room. The contrast between that and the outside and the playing area in theater (with the big double doors open) was marked. But I really liked the energy and enjoyed the second show as much or more than the first. Easy peasy. Would do again.
But I skipped the E-Forest party, the same way I'm probably gonna have to skip Gogol Bordello tomorrow night (although that's not a sure skip). Question of the 168 hour conundrum: Mom's plane was at 10am today, needed to get up and make her breakfast and take her to the airport and see her to the gate, needed to sleep so I can actually do some personal ritual and altar building today, didn't get home from the theater til almost 2am, and then ate the equivalent of a small ox, but a small ox made of left over steamed vegies and rice. A little bourbon, five hours of sleep, and off to the races we are.
But Mom's on the plane. And tonight's show is our last for this week. We record the show tomorrow night, but unlike last week, I don't audition people all afternoon followed by a show. And I'm not responsible for setting up the recording or engineering it, just singing it. Hell, I might even get done in time for Gogol Bordello but a) it's at Stubbs and Stubbs shows play early and b) my knee is kinghell fucked up. I fell off a staircase last year while rehearsing Troades, and the co-pay for the MRI was pretty high so I didn't get it, deciding instead to wait 8 - 12 weeks and see if it healed and it healed...pretty much. Let's just say the injury is lying in wait, I can walk 10 miles a day and go dancing a couple of times a week but there are bendy things it does not like. So maybe this year I'll suck it up and see if Blue Cross is worth their weight in the ever rising monthly premium I fork over every month. The words meniscus tear whisper febrilely in the back of my little tiny brain. We shall see.
D goes to Zurich on Monday. We run more casting callbacks for Sleeping Beauty that night. Tues is an actual night off, unless we do more callbacks. I think I will watch a whole season of Weeds, something very passive in any case. W/Th/Fri/Sat we run the show, Sunday we strike, the following Wed I go to SF, visit a couple of friends for a couple of days then head to Harbin, by myself afaik, which means I can sit in silence in the pools for days. Maybe that will ease the knee. I know it will ease other parts of me.
And then I come back and hit the Eurydice commission, start the SB rewrites and new songs, and gear up for the busy season for Harlequin Pet Services. And the band gets started again. I just found out my favorite bass player resigned his music/money gig. So I want to see if I can get him to plot our money gig. Yep.
Energy.
