my family waited with me for the afternoon vietnamese bus, which picks up from this vietnamese mall/shopping center. while we waited, my mom bought this yummy waffle thing for $1 from a vietnamese bakery. she wanted a hot fresh one (cuz they're like continuously making them on the spot) but got a warm but still yummy one. we wanted some more so she went to buy another one and let them know she'd like a hot fresh one. they gave her a hot fresh one but the inside wasn't fully cooked, which we found out after tearing it open. we took it back but they wouldnt take it because the lady said it was cooked, cuz they couldnt take it off the waffle iron if it wasn't. i dunno how this woman runs a bakery, but things can be cooked on the outside and not fully cooked on the inside. i'm sure the lady also didnt wanna take it back because we already touched it. there was a bit of back and forth tension when my mom finally raised her voice a bit and said "we pay the same thing, how come we cant just get what we want?" the woman, obviously very frustrated, angrily threw the waffle into the trash and handed us another one and asked if that was okay. even though it wasn't hot as my mom liked it, my mom just said yeah and took the waffle, sensing it probably wasnt worth telling the truth and driving the woman berserk.
ok... its easy to get caught up in a moment, but if u run a business, i would think you'd have enough sense to pick your battles. happy customers = better business. better business = more $$$. vice versa for angry customers. that day the woman decided it was worth it to create an angry customer. over what? over the who-knows-how-many-cents it took to make the waffle that was discarded. yeah, big sacrifice you woulda had to make to give my mom a waffle she'd enjoy. ended up chucking the damn undercooked thing anyway.
on a positive note, the vietnamese bus (www.vietnamxekhach.com) really carried through on their offer! (see previous post.) the lady told me to call her when the bus hit around magic mountain since it takes the van people like half an hour to reach my dropoff point. so i when i see magic mountain out the window, i ring her up and she's like ok. then traffic comes to a halt. as far as i can see, its just a trail of tail lights dead in their tracks. i call the van people and since they've already left, i let them know they can take their time cuz we were in a traffic jam.
wellll... turns out the traffic jam didnt end until like 1 1/2 hours, so i arrived in chinatown at around 12:30am, where the van dudes had been waiting an hour and a half for me. there was a driver and a dude sleeping in the back. i didnt think it'd take two people to pick me up but i guess the sleeping dude knew the streets better or something. they were overall pretty good about the whole thing and drove me back to ucla, which took like half an hour.
boy... they really got more than they bargained for when they offered me a ride home :oP :o) anyhow.. they carried through with it quite well. that's some quality service.
