WHEN MY GOLDFISH ASKED ABOUT OUR GOVERNMENT
One day, while feeding my fish George, he asked me “What is Government?
“Government is an industry in which society makes and enforces laws,” I told him.
Then he asked, “What is the purpose of the government?”
So I explained to him that the government provides social control for people, to help solve the problems that people can’t solve by themselves. Other purposes are, to preserve the common culture and to help supply goods and service to its people.
Then I told him, “Here in America, we have an Indirect Democracy. That means that once every four years that we vote for a president and state representatives that vote on the issues of the country”
George exclaimed, “OH, I get it now!! Thanks for clearing that up for me.”
