People are strange.

I was sleeping in today. I had no intention of waking up for at least another hour, but that all changed. I was awakened by out-of-time drumming coming from outside. I had forgotten that Justin told me about the protestors. Normally, I have no problem with protestors, but I find this protest march a little strange: These people are protesting events that took place over sixty years ago, namely the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Since World War II, the Japanese has given the city of Oak Ridge the Friendship Bell, a "no hard feelings, we don't hate you for nuking us" gift. I don't think these people should be protesting events that they can't change, especially when THE PEOPLE THAT WERE BOMBED HAVE FORGIVEN US. I can't change the fact that the Japanese were responsible for killing, raping, and torturing numerous Filipino men, women, and children during that same war. Do I hold a grudge against the Japanese people for those atrocities? No. Why? Because it happened over sixty years ago, and both countries involved acknowledged and pushed aside the past.

This protest makes even LESS sense when you take into account that most of the protestors are white, middle-aged women. I could understand if it were 1,000 Japanese citizens coming over here to protest, though it wouldn't sway my opinion on the protest.

If these people were protesting current events, I might be out there with them, depending on topic.
