Today we did some training called "Public Access", and it was a LOT of FUN!!
Dad is still wobbly, and has to use his cripple-crutches to walk when he walks very long- but Pa was willing to take on the task of trainin' the Corapants how I have to act in STORES.
Now, I have BEEN in stores, ya know. Pet stores, and places they know me and Dad and Pa... but that is very different than /training/ for "public access". I has to be PERFECT for th'public access thing, before I gets any certification or a proper "Service Dog" vest, without the little "in training" that MINE has on it!
We been on road trips, and we tested at pet-friendly places... but this was the first time we went to a place that is quiet, and normally doesn't allow pets at all! (except, with my green "service dog in training" vest, they did! WOW!! I was so excited!!!)
It was a BOOKSTORE... and first, Dad wanted to look at software... it was very strange. I had no idea that when they go to Stores, they stand around and stare at things on shelves. But that's what Dad DID!
Then we walked to another aisle... and looked at books.
And then Pa took ME for a walk. To look at more things.
When we got to the other end of the Store, Pa turned around to do a quickie get-me-in-focus training sesions, and a whole BUNCH of people were following us!! (Oh he was proud, how I had ignored them!! I was good girl Cora!)
Pa stood at the front and gave a little impromteau talk, about what stage of training I was in, what breed, what age, that kibnd of thing- and to do my training in front of them so I would stay focused- cause by then I was starting to wonder why I couldn't PLAY with them, since they were all focused on MEEEEeeee!! But then I refocused, and we went back to the area where Dad was.
I am told it was a VERY good session, but I am still trying to figure out- if Stores are SO awesome for Dad and Pa... how come all they do in them is walk around and look?
I mean, when I go into the Pet Store, there's TONE OF AWESOME STUFF!!!
At the BOOK store, there is nothing there but boxes and books and stuff in plastic wrap of clamshell packs and stuff...
And people.
Looking at it all.
And me.
YAY ME!!
