So last Night,
thatcaptjim was having some really bad Asthma attacks. I was staying up, and I could hear them from the living room- the coughing part, anyway. I checked in on him, but he was breathing okay between them and wasn't waking up.
At one point, Cora (who had been asleep in there with him each time I checked on him) gave out this VERY insistant whine and BARK. It was a very clear 'get in here NOW' sound- and I ran in there because I was already on alert myself.
thatcaptjim was starting to wheeze REALLY badly- the kind of attack that scares even ME, and I suddenly realized, he didn't HAVE an inhaler beside him.
He also wasn't waking up.
Cora was FOCUSED on him, and I went and got a spare inhaler and woke him up to get him to use it. He dozed off after, and she BARKED him awake again a few minutes later for a second puff on it.
Finally, his lungs loosened, and she turned around and demanded to be let out to check on him.
She sniffed him, seemed satisfied, and then wanted her chew-cow-foot and to come watch TV with me...
He got a couple hours of sleep after, and Cora chewed on her cowfoot and slept out here- untill 4am.
She was all, "Is it UP time yet?" No? Oh. Darn.
Then at 4:30 she was all "YET?" oh. no. DARN.
At 5am, the movie was over and I turned on the news- she JUMPED to her feet and did a happydance, and demanded to be let out of her playpen to go wakey-wakey for Jim. *LAUGHS*
So now he has his own alarm-clock dawg (bwaahahahaha) and she woke him up, and then did HAPPYDANCES around us untill everyone was dressed and ready- then DEMANDED her harness to go WITH!
I put on the harness, and she sat perfectly still for it- and then suddenly went into a kind of 'work-mode' behavior that was spot-on!
I was amazed.
This is, after all, our Spazzy Cora... but she has started to find her place in her pack, and learn what her 'job' is, in life... and in her eyes, she did it WELL today-
Cause now she's all conked out on the floor, snoring- having ridden along to get Jim to his carpool, wiggling happily all the way- then sleeping in the car all the way home... and then breakfast in the belly before conking out.
One. Happy. Pup.
AND one happy owner- she is finally grasping her space in life, and how to express it properly!!
