Character Sheet
Name: Jamieson Well
Approximate Age: Mid-thirties
Gender Presentation: Male
Height: 6'1.
Build: Slim, when next to his partner Rupert Finns, but built with muscles.
Hair: Strawberry-blonde. Fine and soft to the touch. Has thin mutton chops on him that Andrea finds unflattering but keeps that opinion to herself since he prides himself on having them.
Eyes: Green. Often compared to viridian green or dark emerald.
Dress Style: Simple suits that are made from exquisite material when he's out of his uniform. It happens to be formal clothing no matter where he goes though he will wear a workman's outfit if he must. He favours wearing a morning suit with an athletic support underneath it, keeping a sword-cane on his person as well.
Distinguishing Features: Unflattering dark splotches on his arms which is why he always wears long-sleeved outfits. A collection of scars here and there all over him that can be covered up by his clothes.
Notable Possessions: His Constable uniform and his gun. A jade pendant he wears around his neck.
Manner of Speaking: Plain most days but he can be civil if he wants to.
General Attitude: Distant and polite, sharp but he is mellowing nowadays.
General Impression: Severe man of good breeding and excellent background. He's a known Constable thanks to his adventures in the past and his impressive records and arrests. Bohemians will know him as Flaming Jamie, the man who once burnt down a cafe in anger and was (still is) rumored to have a torrid affair with Rupert Finns. Criminals will know him as the one they never ever should provoke to anger.
The Basics
Full Name: Sir Jamieson Howard Leopold Well
Aliases: The Fiery Constable. Presumptuous Lark.
Birthday: 29th of September
Chiropteromantic Sign: The Lantern.
Age: 32
Additional Physical Description: Jamieson can be considered handsome by people, very handsome, really, thanks to his looks thanks to both of his very good-looking parents and his fit and trim figure from years of training and general physical activity. His most notable feature are his eyes that happen to be a vivid dark green colour, something he inherited from his father. People have been known to note them the first time when meeting him if they are that type of person who remarks on people's distinguishing features. It has been said that he would look nicer if he just smiled more often and let himself relax a little bit. Of course that means he tends to go about through life wearing a very impressive scowl and is tense most days.
Distinguishing Features: Besides his eyes there are some ugly scars on his torso and back. A few nicks and cuts and scars here and there thanks to his work as a Constable over the years. There is also a lack of tattoos on him.
Manner of Movement: Steady and reliable.
Physical Health: Peak condition or tries to make it that way. He's taken a battering as his years on the force but is impressively healthy.
Mental Health: Not too bad. Suffers no nightmares as he is uninterested in venturing the more dangerous aspects of his home if possible and is stable as he can be. He was once prone to his zealous and overbearing temper in regards to many things, especially Andrea and Jeremy, but the last few years and adventures have helped calm him down. To an extent.
Positive Traits: Stalwart through and through, honorable man who keeps his promises and words no matter the cost to himself, and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. He is loyal and dedicated to his cause and those he cares for, doing what he can to help them.
Negative Traits: Hotheadedness, a shade of rudeness that lingers on his every action and word. He is also prone to keeping people he does not know well at arm's length. Overprotective of his loved ones to the point of suffocating them.
Vices: Fire. Justice. Overzealous application of justice when using fire as a method to it.
Likes: His friends and, of course, Andrea and Jeremy. He's also fond of reading philosophic works and having good conversations about them. Justice, law and order. Patriotism for London and London only.
Dislikes: Anything related to the Bazaar and the Masters. People breaking the law. His values and principles being undermined. Chaos. His family and friends being threatened or bullied.
Getting Things Done
What are your primary focuses, in terms of the four main stats?
By far, at the moment, it happens to be Dangerous. Understandable with how he had such a hands-on approach to his work back in the day and he is an instructor at Watchmaker's Hill Division who leads by example when it comes to training. Watchful is the next stat since he's an observant and careful man who has done his fair share of cases.
What are your weaknesses? Do you have a ‘Dump Stat’?
Shadowy because hahahahaha this man and his history.
Allies & Associates: The Circle. Through his wife he knows a handful of players of the Great Game including one Mr Monday and one Spy Rein and Lady Rose, the latter having since returned to the Surface for her engagement. He is also allied with the Last Constable against the Cheery Man during her fight against the crime lord. Jamieson smuggled her out to safety in the Tomb-Colonies when things became too heated for her here. Keeps in regular contact with her to give updates.
Pets: A total of three pets. He loves them in his own way and tends to them the best he can.
An elderly bat who has quite an attitude but has proven himself loyal and true. Named after his father, Marcus, since it was a gift to his father when he was a lad. That means, yes, the bat is that old but he isn't going to be dying anytime soon. He's the bat Jamieson uses the most when it comes to corresponding his letters and reports, private and otherwise.
A salt-weasel he more or less got by accident when taking a stroll with Ladybones. He named her Louise and then renamed her Louis when discovering she's a he. He answers to both, though, and Jamieson is just glad it answers to him all. Sweet if clueless, the friendly animal is a welcomed addition to the household for his playfulness.
A maverick bloodhound whose name is Sam. He this fellow got from a friend of the Knuckle-Scarred Inspector since the man was retiring from active duty and someone needed to keep the hound. He and Sam get along well enough and Sam has proven to be an excellent bodyguard in regards to making sure no one tries to break into the Well estate.
Connections:
Highest Connection: Constables - Familiar. He's part of the force and, despite his flaws, the other officers and lads knows he's one of them no matter what.
Lowest Connection: Masters of the Bazaar - His Face is Known but in a flattering way. He privately scorns them, flat out told Mr Sacks (Mr Fires?) that they dragged London into a hellhole when asked of his opinion during the Christmas Season, and used to pubicly defy them until a few years back. Now he keeps his mouth shut about his opinion but there is a steely coolness when he must address them since Andrea was forced to the zee thanks to the Game and he realised he can't afford to put his family in harm's way with his pigheadedness.
Enemies: The Great Game in general. He is particularly not fond of the Weekend family. Recently made enemies with the Cheery Man to his lover's distress. Criminals, of course, and there's hell with the Soul Trade and swindling vulnerable people of their souls.
Ambition: None. He's happy as he is and has no Desire, no need to Bag a Legend, no Nemesis, and he certainly doesn't have Light Fingers. Most likely will continue this vein for a long time.
Other Goals: Help his son recover from his illness. Make sure his friends stay alive and out of jail. Find out whatever happened to the Venerable Literato despite Joanna's objections. Make sure no one knows about his alias.
Finance: Very well off. He inherited a sizeable fortune from his deceased parents and makes an alright-ish pay from his job. Dabbles in ventures and businesses here and there if only to shut his uncle up, most of his dealings working out well for him. His lover is part of the Great Game and is an important piece meaning she gets great pay or items in return of her services. Much as he loathes his Uncle Samuel, the man does know how to keep the books balanced and has amassed more fortune for the Wells during his time as the Head.
Residence:
The Well Residence. Found at Watchmaker's Hill, #14 Belladonna Avenue.
Notable Possessions: He has a brass pocketwatch that he carries around him at all times. When opened, it reveals a daguerreotype of him and his son and Andrea together. He looks constipated in the photo but the smiles of his two loved ones are so beautiful to him he can't bear to replace it. His wedding ring that he wears at all costs.
Favoured Weapon: Baton and his fists. Sometimes uses a gun if he must.
Combat Style: Aim hard and aim fast, deliver the blows in the right places. It is a mixture of brains and brawns in comparison's to Rupert's 'pick-them-up-and-toss-them-to-the-side' style.
Questions of Some Importance
Have you got a...
Boat? Supposedly a Zee-clipper he inherited from his mother. He never actually saw it however and suspects his Uncle Samuel sold it off. Typical if that's the case.
Club? None.
Affiliation? The Circle, through and through.
Faction? The Constables.
Background
A Brief History of Life in London: Originally hoping to be a priest, he found himself following his family's path of Constables and Inspectors after the Priest Incident -- an event that transpired when trying to save his then crush, Andrea Weaver, from getting killed by a fake priest/soul smuggler. -- all but blocked him from his preferred path. Originally engaged to Andrea, their relationship fell apart thanks to groups working against them. It took them a few years, several of their friends, a few deaths and a lot of plotting and scheming for them to get back together with their recently discovered son joining them.
For the past few years he's been focused on work and Jeremy, who has taken ill two or three years ago, while dealing with the strain Andrea's job as a spy/encryptor ('Weaver' as people of her unusual skills are more commonly known) puts on the both of them. It had gotten to the point Andrea had to leave for the safety of the Zee when people were gunning for her and Jamieson was forced to take a less active role in his job as a Constable to avoid attention being brought up him and Jeremy who had to be left behind in London since Jeremy couldn't afford to travel about. The events have forced him to reevaluate himself and his character and, as a result, he's calmed down after a fashion and has tried to restrain himself when it comes to his violent passions or as his friends put it 'very' violent passions.
Religion: Still considered an Anglican but not too loyal to it these days.
Occupation: Constable. Sometimes he's an author who specializes in racy novels under a pseudonym.
Hobbies & Interests: Reading. Letter writing. Physical activities like training, fighting and fencing. Music and is a big fan of opera and classical plays. Has taken up medicine and first-aid to look after his son since he fell ill several years ago.
Talents: Detective work, fighting, setting things on fire, math, writing racy novels and is a surprisingly good singer.
Un-Talents: Manners and anything that requires him to be friendly and amiable. He's learning and is somewhat improving on this problem but it is a notable problem. Jamieson is also a terrible dancer.
Education: Was taught by the best tutors and teachers his parents' wealth could buy and it shows from time to time. He isn't all muscles after all. He has a good head for math and numbers. As an Englishman, he's fond of classicals and arts and is rather ignorant when it comes to science and technology.
Languages: English. Latin. German. Has picked up some phrases of Talaglog and Chinese. (Mostly curse words in terms of the last two languages and is not inclined to use them as a result.)
Family: His father and mother are long dead and his closest living relative, Samuel Well, is someone he can't stand being in the room with.
The Relationship Stuff
Relationship Status: Married to Andrea Weaver-Well. They're a known couple in the 'Neath for good reasons and bad reasons, rather famous for their devotion and loyalty for each other and have just tied the knot.
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual but he's in fierce, and I do mean fierce, denial of that.
How does your character feel about...
Sentient Nonhumans? It could be worse. He doesn't hold a real opinion of them and considered them members of the city since they are living here. Thinks cats could be less smug and rude but knows cats have always been like that.
What about Tomb-Colonists? They were once people too. Granted they're not... the same but a lot of them know a good move or two when it comes to fighting. He isn't eager to have a long term conversation with them since, in his experience, it always devolves into a duel of some sort.
Devils and Hell? Get away from him, his family and friends and London in general.
The Masters? and The Bazaar? Keeps his opinions of them to himself in order to not risk attention now. But he's refused the offer of being a Special Constable several times and publicly loathed them in the past. Make that of what you will.
Social Issues? Is aware of the troubles his lover faces thanks to her gender and race. Definitely sympathetic in regards to that but he's lukewarm/rather ignorant of other social issues and troubles beyond that.
Religion? Once held a rose colored glasses view of it. Nowadays he still is warm towards the ideals of people being equal no matter what and treating people with respect but admits that it has its flaws and problems.
Temperance? Long as they don't make too much of a fuss when campaigning. They are the worst when trying to disperse a protest between them and Bohemians.
