The Rustic Tri-View

Jamey and I went to a drive in movie on Friday. I had been wanting to go see something at the drive in for almost a year, but since they do double features, we were waiting for two movies we'd want to see together, which was a long time coming.

The Rustic opened in 1951, and it really looks like they haven't repaved the parking lot since then. It's also on a hill, so some of the spots aren't flat. I was surprised by the demographic -- I expected teenagers, but it was mostly families. Also, it was clear most of the people were regulars, and they had a whole system for movie viewing, where they brought out some lawn chairs and opened the back of their car so they could sit outside and watch the movies.

At first it was weird listening to a movie on the car radio, but I quickly got used to it. It was great to be able to talk as much as we wanted to during the movie, especially given the first one we saw (The Mummy III, which I cannot recommend). It was also neat that they had three screens, so you could see other movies playing in the background (and if we had really wanted to, we could have ditched Mummy for Journey to the Center of the Earth). The price is great, especially if you actually bring seven people in a van.

So, in conclusion: I'd go again! But I'd bring lawn chairs next time -- watching a movie outside seems far superior to watching it in the car.
