It was so weird. When I hear about this stuff my usual reaction is anger, frustration and eventually it fuels my activism. But I completely surprised myself because I started crying. You know how most of the time when you're about to cry you have some power over containing it, postponing it or preventing it? I didn't. I just fucking lost it in class. All I could think was "2 hours? That's a fucking movie. That's a really, really, long, boring class. And she was found unconscious under a bench?" The media are focusing on 3 things with this case that they are calling the ALLEGED gang rape. 1) They are focusing on the fact that bystanders did nothing 2) they are focusing on the fact that it happened in a dark alley and alcohol was involved 3) they are focusing on the race of the perpetrators. Blows my fucking mind.
Between this, stupid ol' Maine and the UO still refusing to sign the SASS contract, it's been quite the week.
