In the Great Depression, we had a strong government. It might have expanded the Great Depression, but it quelled the people into believing that it *was* addressing the problem. While people lost faith in capitalism, they did not lose faith in the government.
Considering that most suicide bombers are far more educated than the average person, I'd be kinda dumb to think that it was poverty that created the problem. The nature of Salafism, a Sunni form of Islamic fundamentalism, is complex (105-07). Statistical analysis fails to corroborate Salafism-terrorism connection, but it does corroborate a connection to U.S. military policies in the Persian Gulf (107-17). Al-Qaeda propaganda emphasizes the “Crusader” theme, which is inherently related to occupation (117-24). Pape concludes that “the core features of al-Qaeda” are captured by his theory (125).
When the government fails politically, people tend to turn to tribal and religious lines. Again that doesn't make this a religious war.

You tried the tired old "it's Western colonialism / all our fault" canard because, as we all know, there are no such things as bad guys to Liberals unless those bad guys are Republicans or US soldiers.

This is a good thing. It might mean there is a chance you've begun to realize the flaws in so much of what you've been taught. You might be waking up, just as I did.
Don't go away mad, sweetcheeks. Just go away. And reflect. While reflecting try to reflect on the countless millions of women who have no rights, who are sometimes literally sold into slavery, and how that is all the fault of Western colonialism, not the religion. Surely the slavery, rape, beatings and lack of freedom of millions of your fellow women in the name of Allah is at least a little close in importance to your rabid ideology. At least worth a moment of consideration? Even a moment? Maybe one of the speakers at a Vagina Monologue should stand up and beat herself bloody for even trying to speak at all. Have you checked out VM:"Under the Burqa?" Maybe you should, but interrupt and tell her it's about politics, not religion.
