All right, people. I am using you to further my own ends. You have to help me choose a topic for my history paper.

1, How did changing technology affect the outcome of key battles in medieval Europe?

2. How did the medieval medical profession operate? How did their main tenants affect their diagnosis and treatment of patients?

3. How were scientists treated by church and state?
What impact did the rise of universities have on the development of profession such as medicine and law?

4. What role did women play in medicine and the teaching and practice of medicine?

5. To what extent did Islamic science change the way western scholars perceived their world?

6. Where did the idea of the "Dark Ages" come from, and how accurate was it? How has it since been criticized?

7. In what ways did medieval concepts of masculinity affect daily life?

8. To what extent were prostitutes an accepted part of town life?

I also have to pick a Canadian political issue to write a poli-sci paper on. What issues am I interested in, people?! (Note to self; read paper more.)

As a reward for you nerdy types, I have some interesting facts from a bio article on domestication. One of the things the author discusses is why, out of all the species on the planet, we've only domesticated a few of them. He claims that most species fail in some categorical way (he names six) to be effective and efficient for human use. He also says this,

"Comparisons of domesticated wild species with never-domesticated close relatives illustrate the subtle factors that can derail domestication. The European horse breeders who settled in South Africa in the 1600s and - like African herders for previous millennia - tried to domesticate zebras. They gave up after several centuries for two reasons. First, zebras are incurably viscous, have the bad habit of biting a handler and not letting go until the handler is dead, and thereby injure more zookeepers each year than do tigers."

I had actually wondered why we hadn't done the zebra thing. *shudders*
