"My thoughts, exactly. Beyond that, considering the situation with the second brigade, I'm starting to wonder if we won't have to lead them around for a bit until things settle down. It might be best to combine the two, tomorrow."

He frowned and watched this man, trying not to compare him to Geddoe -- a quiet comfort he'd never admit to, while he considered their situation. Were the opposing armies losing soldiers and officers as well? Were they taking their responsibilities seriously? He simply had no way to tell, yet.

"I hope to not see them either," Caesar said at last. "They need all the help they can get. Besides, it'd be nice to see a few capable scouts come out of this." He tipped his head at the question and snorted quietly, offering a rueful scowl. "I'm fine when it comes to sneaking around a castle, and I can be quiet on marches when I need to be, but I wouldn't bet on needing three. Accompany my general to the field when necessary, but mainly secure a defensible position where I can see the entire battle's progression -- that's what I was trained to do."

The pleasant face slipped then, showing an expression lined with quiet, self-aware worry. "I'm working on amending that, of course, but ... I've got quite a bit of catching up to do in what I fear may be a minimal amount of time. You know -- before this place, I'd never held a weapon beyond the desire to simply examine it."
