It was something he'd gotten used to pretty quick again, all things considered. Took him a good twenty-somewhat years back again to his old US army life, a time he wasn't too keen on remembering. And just like back then he'd risen through the ranks without much effort and in a short time, whether or not he aimed for it. Not a path he wanted to take again, but what could he do? It wasn't like he just could run away again --
Regardless of what I am or what I was created to do, there's nothing that's making me follow whatever "destiny" there was in mind for me. Humans have the right to choose the type of life they want to live and pursue it. I'm no exception.
Right. Sitting at his table -- alone and a good deal away from any other people that were currently dining -- Jack poked his meal with his fork, waiting for his appetite to come back. He hadn't eaten since yesterday, the night had been hectic and stressful and despite his decision to delay the first training session, he had little time or motivation to do much of...well, anything. And then there was that Snake guy of course, lovingly renamed 'Solid' for the time being until they had figured something out concerning this identity business. And after everything he'd done to forget about his past and what had happened back then --
Why did he have to show up?
Mutilating his steak with his knife, he wondered how he could and should approach this, and came to no conclusion. Things like accepting him as my son didn't even cross his mind, and he should probably focus on the matters at hand anyway.
He was supposed to meet up with someone at this time, wasn't he? Maybe she had any idea what the hell to do --
