I couldn't find a similar recipe for this cake on the internet. Its a good recipe for using up left over egg yolks. My mom made a variation of this every time she made angel food cake (uses all egg whites). This recipe is from Kitchen Club Recipes by Edith Hansen (Radio home-maker). The radio home-makers were cooking and baking on the air ages before Food Network stars.
Sunshine Cake:
11 egg yolks
1/2 cup ice water
1 cup sugar
little grated orange rind
1 teaspoon orange flavoring
1/2 teaspoon lemon flavoring
1 1/2 cup cake flour (sifted and measured)
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
Beat eggs and water 15 minutes. Add sugar, a spoonful at a time, then flavoring.
Sift flour, baking powder and cream of tartar five times. Then add to egg and sugar mixture. Bake in ungreased pan. Start baking in cold oven; allow temperature to raise to about 325 deg. F., and bake 1 hour.
