The Dark Knight Triumphant

The Dark Knight turned out to be everything I wanted from it and more. Its so releaving to see a movie that was so heavily marketed actually live up to its hype.

Heath Ledger was awesome. This role alone solidifies his status as one of the best actors of our time, which makes his untimely death all the more unfortunate. Ledger really took this role seriously and really knew what elements to bring to the character that would accurately portray the interpretation Nolan was seeking, while at the same time incorporating elements that fans of the comics would appreciate as being true to the character. I particularly enjoyed how the nobody is really given any clue as to how the Joker came about. When I first heard thats where the direction of the movie was going I was a little disappointed because I was afraid it would make the character detached and underdeveloped. What Christopher and Johnathan Nolan did was develop the character pertaining strictly to his role in the movie and then shroud his psychologic motivations in mystery as theme for the character in the film. In doing this, the film actually reveals why the Joker is so dangerous and why Batman can never kill him.

I'm overcome with anticipation for the third installment. I can't wait to see what else Nolan has up his sleeves. I would actually prefer if Nolan just did strictly Batman movies for the rest of his career, because I really don't think anyone can top what hes done. Then again, I was saying the same thing about Burton when "Batman Begins" was in the works.

Tonight I will see the movie for the second time (this time its the IMAX experience) and I'm confident it will be even better the second time around. I'm hoping to get there early because I know people who pay top dollar to go to an IMAX showing are going to be serious fans. Our movie is at 10:20, so you'd think everyone would have already gone to the early ones, right? Every IMAX showing up until this Monday at 12:20pm are completely sold out.

There was a trailer for "The Watchmen" that looked really cool. I haven't read the comic yet but the nerdy pirate dude who sat in front of me last night seemed pretty excited about it, so I guess it'll be good.
