I haven't been keeping up with this damn thing. Its been a pretty busy couple of weeks.
This entry will be short because I have a good bit of work to do.
Today I found out that all AP classes (uncertain of whether it is state wide or just county wide, regardless it will apply to us) will not be able to give summer assignments. Now, of course, there was a hint of happiness when I heard this news (ironically because there are more books that I wanted to read over summer, but just weren't on the AP list), but at the same time I think its stupid. Really. Some stupid kid didn't do their summer assignments, so their AP teacher gave them an F. So instead of the parents of this child being PARENTS and enforcing rules on the kid, they spoiled them and tried (and succeeded apparently) to make all their troubles go away, by throwing a lawsuit at the school. Reality check: Mommy and Daddy are not always going to be there to wipe your fucking ass. Get over it, get to work. I mean for god's sakes the kid knew WHAT they had to do and WHEN they had to have it done by. Soooo, now the entire county says that summer work is "unfair" to the students. The only thing unfair is how this fucking county is constantly throwing away our education. Don't get me wrong, I would love to not have to do summer work. It would be great to be able to have my summers to myself to do whatever the hell I wanted. But you know what? Thats what fucking comp/adv classes are for. Its so stupid. Now classes that had to do summer work, that came directly out of there books (i.e. World and U.S. History, which is already hard enough to get through the entire book with the limited amount of time given, and Physics, probably has the same problem as the history classes) will have a hard time getting through everything that will needed to be covered for the AP exam.
I'm so tired of stupid/unmotivated kids. Thats another thing. By getting rid of summer assignments, they're going to be receiving more idiotic unmotivated kids, who will only hold the classes back, and over time reduce it to an Advanced level class. The AP teachers are going to meet and try to figure something out. I'm not trying to be a brown nose or an overachiever, I'm just saying that by doing this WE WILL BE BEHIND. OR, we will have twice the workload during the regular year. Which would really suckass.
Things I WILL be reading over summer:
1.)Heart of Darkness
2.)Joy Luck Club
3.)Catch-22
4.)Nine stories
If the AP teachers decide to do something with summer assignments for extra credit or something of that matter, then I will be doing that. Mainly because ITS EASY. PEOPLE WHO DON'T GET SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS DONE ARE MERELY BEING LAZY. ITS NOT BECAUSE THE WORK IS TOO HARD.
There is hope that Mrs. Hunt may not be teaching AP lit next year. Cross your fingers. I came up with a theory that Mr. Ford just told us that because he saw the immense number of students who dropped the class based primarily because of that fact.
Quotes of the Day:
Midkiff: (in reference to the french) "...and that was the second we saved their croissants. But do you think they remembered? No."
Mrs Saucier: (Jokingly) Yeah, at the Orlando meeting there will be a little piece of candy attached to your paper.
Kyle Skinner: Good. I mean if I didn't get my candy I'd be very upset.
ME: Yeah, because you'd die!
KS: Shut up.
We BOTH laughed about it.
Joan and I decided that the ultimate fight to watch would be Mr. Regner (Old AP U.S. teacher) vs Mr. Midkiff (Current AP U.S. teacher).
Not as short of an entry as I thought. Oh well.
Now time to work on my chem T-shirt (This isn't fucking art class, its chemistry. Grade us on that!)
