I WON'T MISS

Jul 02, 2018 10:04

I won't miss
the drip of the IV,
blip of my pulse on a bright screen
in a sterile room,
white-knuckled grip on the bed rail.
Crippling debt and a wet blood trail,
feral and crude.
I trusted no one but you.

You packed all of my belongings,
while I asked always for the wrong things
for you to send.
I lacked any sense of direction
and said yes from desperation,
not innocence,
come to think of it.

Look me in the eye.
There's no book on how to die
or how to live.
