Quake

Weird happenings last night. There I was, calmly working at the computer, PBS Christmas music on the TV, when all of a sudden I heard and felt a gigantic THUD! The whole house shook! I could feel the foundation move under my feet. My first thought was that part of the house had slid off the foundation, or maybe a car had run into the house. I did a quick check...no damage inside the house. I ran out into the front yard in my sweats and tank top and slippers. My neighbors up and down my street were all doing the same thing, with similar attire. We all felt and heard and thought the same thing. I ran back inside and turned on the scanner. The Police dispatcher said that all the dispatches on our side of OKC were flooded with calls. One cop said he was going to check the refinery for explosions, another suggested checking the skyline (I live less than 10 miles from the site of the infamous OKC bombing). Mom suggested a sonic boom, and we also wondered if one of the big planes had crashed at Tinker. After about an hour the TV stations started breaking into programming and reporting an earthquake. The 10 p.m. news finally told us that it was indeed an earthquake, 2.5 on the richter scale, with an epicenter about 5 miles from my house. I slept through the 2.7 aftershock that happened around midnight.
