What with the evils of facebook and myspace... sorry.
Anyhow, I don't particularly care if anyone reads this or anything... It's mostly just thoughts that I don't want posted on a well traveled social networking site... but I feel I must rant without worrying about being attacked.
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal"
Gay marriage. I do not, in any way at all, understand why there's a debate about this. Equality is what our country is supposed to pride itself in. Granted, we've had all sorts of issues with it. But you think by the 21st century we would've come to accept anyone regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual preference, or anything else for that matter. Seriously America. W.T.F?! All men are created equal. It's not, "All men except for blacks, gays, jews, gypsies, the handicapped, lebanese, irish, italian, german, catholic, muslim, hindu, buddhist, tibetan, redheads, and trannies are created equal."
Christ, guys, it seems pretty simple to me. Equal means the same. All men are the same. Who cares who is doing who in the privacy of their own home?!
And speaking of Christ. I'd like to reference Prop 8. First off, separation of Church and State. America does not have an official religion.. for a reason. The whole reason people came here in the first place (besides the whole gold thing) was to escape religious persecution. Granted, these people would've gladly stoned a gay person to death, but the point remains. Our country was built on the idea that no one would be punished for having alternative beliefs. I know it's a lofty wish, but I really do hope some day we can take religion out of politics and politics out of religion. Furthermore, who gives a flying frick if the Bible says homosexuality is wrong or that marriage is a sacred union or whatever it does (I can't say I know, I don't pretend to be an expert on the Bible even in the slightest)? I'm pretty sure the Bible also condones stoning your wives and a lot of other pretty weird things, new or old testament. I dare you to find me someone who follows every single word of the Bible to a T. Call me crazy, but I was under the impression that a lot of people thought religion wasn't a pick and choose sort of thing.
Guh. It just bugs me that some people think they have more rights than others. I know it isn't a perfect world. But this, at least to me, seems like such a no-brainer. All men are created equal... am I missing something there? Is there a hidden meaning that other people can see? Is it a code that the Free Masons left us that really reveals the meaning of life so long as we make sure gay people never get married?
Ugh. I get so frustrated when I see anti gay stuff. The bumper stickers on cars that say "1 man+1 woman" or (the thing that got me going this time) Causes on Facebook to stop the legalization of gay marriage.
Why should it even have to be legalized? Shouldn't it just be allowed from the beginning. It seems kind of stupid just to add a clause that says, "Oh yeah, gays can get married too" Seems like an awful lot of work for something that should be pretty obvious. Is there a clause that says, "Oh don't forget inter racial marriage either. We finally decided to give that our sacred and ever-craved approval."
Maybe the only answer is a repeat of the Civil Rights movement.... but you think we would've learned from history... maybe that's the problem. Uneducated politicians. Eureka!
So yeah. I'm frustrated by this.
