Part 10 ~ Orlando's father visits

Viggo sat staring out his front window. Orlando hadn’t been back to his house since that day in the car, which had been three weeks, one day and two hours ago. Not a word had come from Orlando in that time. The young man’s words kept repeating over and over again in Viggo’s head. This couldn’t happen again.’ It seemed the young man had cut off all ties with Viggo, and was never coming back. Viggo could just kick himself for not controlling himself, for not seeing what something like that could do to Orlando.

He had no doubt that Orlando was more than a little troubled by what happened. If he hadn’t been, Orlando never would have run away from him. Now Viggo wished to God that he had put up more of an effort in trying to find the younger man that day. He wished he had gone to Orlando’s house and dragged him away to speak to him. To try and give some kind of comfort or at least an ear to listen to whatever was going on in his head.

Sean had found him driving up and down the street that lead from his house to Orlando’s. He had made Viggo come back home, and there Viggo had spent the rest of the night drowning himself in booze, and when he had ran out of wine in the house, he had gotten into his car and driven to a bar, where he had stayed until once again Sean had found him and took him home.

Viggo couldn’t imagine what was going on in Orlando’s head, but he had a good guess. He guessed the only thing that Orlando could think about was what this would mean to his family. He was probably worrying what would happen to them if they were ever to find out about the sin their son had committed against God with some strange English man. He wished that somehow he could help Orlando.

All that Viggo could think about was his own coming out. It had been a complicated thing, not so much as Orlando’s would be if he chose that road to go down. Viggo had been married before he had discovered that he liked men more than women. Viggo’s wife had been more loving and understanding than Viggo could have ever guessed she would have been.

She had told Viggo she had guessed that he was gay years before he had worked up the nerve to tell her. It had crushed Viggo at first seeing what the trust had done to his wife, even though she had known. As the years went on and she eventually forgave Viggo, she had gotten past her hate for all the lies he had told her. Their relationship had then bloomed into a stronger friendship, made even more so by the love for their son.

When Viggo had come out to his mother and father, it hadn’t worked out as well. His mother hadn’t seemed at all fazed by the idea of having a gay son, and had kept loving him in the same manner as she had always done. Viggo’s father however had been a completely different reaction altogether.

At first Viggo had thought his father was alright with the idea. But a few years later his father had stopped talking to Viggo. Even going as far as telling Viggo he wasn’t welcome in his home. A year after that, Viggo found out that his parents were filing for a divorce.

Viggo always blamed himself for that, even if his mother reassured Viggo that it had nothing to do with him, just that the two had grown apart. Viggo’s father had moved out to California and had began another life with a new family. Viggo hadn’t heard a word from him in all this time.

Viggo had no idea what he would have done without Sean there, or a good number of his other close friends that only added up to maybe three or four people. He couldn’t imagine how Orlando could cope without someone to talk to.

It would have been better if I had just not come here. Orlando wouldn’t be questioning himself and I wouldn’t have fallen in love with someone I can’t haveY again,’ Viggo thought to himself heaving a deep sigh and closing his eyes.

He just needed a few seconds to clear his mind. He needed a few seconds not to think about everything that had happened in the last few weeks. He was beginning to feel like he was going to go crazy if he didn’t stop thinking about it. Just as Viggo could feel the tension in between his shoulders ease up a little he heard Sean’s voice.

“I think you had better open your eyes and look out your window Viggo,” he heard the other man say and Viggo was about to tell Sean to piss off. He did however open his eyes and look back to the window. Viggo jumped to his feet as a black Amish buggy made it’s way up his driveway.

“Orlando...” Viggo said in a low whisper.

“Well, what are you waiting for Viggo?” Sean asked with a small grin. “Get off your butt and get out there before he changes his mind,” he chuckled. “And whatever you do don’t go yelling at the poor kid again.” Sean knew Viggo hadn’t heard a word he said because Viggo was on his feet and out the door before he got the first word out.

Sean stood at the window and watched as Viggo hurried down the driveway to meet the buggy. He blinked however as Viggo came to a screeching halt when Orlando didn’t step out from the buggy but two older men did.

“This isn’t right,” Sean muttered to himself. The last few days Sean had been sitting around watching Viggo beat himself up over what had happened between Orlando and his friend. He knew that Viggo felt bad enough over it all and the possibility of the men coming to Viggo’s home to chew him out for it bothered Sean a great deal.

“That can’t be possible,” Sean said to himself. “If Orlando was stupid enough to tell anyone about it, I am sure that’s just what is about to happen.” Sean sighed and followed Viggo’s path out the front door. He stood on the front porch for a few seconds and then decided he had better go out there. He made his way down the driveway and to Viggo’s side. There wasn’t much Sean knew he could say to defend Viggo. He hadn’t seen what had happened between Orlando and Viggo and Sean hadn’t gotten any information from Viggo in the last few weeks either. All he could guess was that the two had slept together, and Orlando’s religion had complicated things too much.

But that under age thing don’t matter much,’ Sean reminded himself. Even if the cops  found out about all of it, Orlando’s Amish family wouldn’t place any charges against Viggo. At least he had that going for him. The Amish almost never press any changes against anyone. They believed in turning the other cheek and forgive. They believed in keeping themselves separate from the “sinful English” world. But Sean couldn’t decide why the two men were there. Perhaps for a little Amish gustiest, whatever that might be. All that Sean could do now was offer his friend his support and see what might happen.

Sean came to a stop at Viggo’s side just as the younger man of the two greeted Viggo. Giving him his last name and it took no time for Sean to know that this man was indeed Orlando’s father. He then told Viggo that the other man’s name was Jack and that he was the disciple from the church. Sean knew then that this wasn’t just any man that had come to speak to Viggo, but the head of the Amish community. Sean felt his heart drop in his chest.

“Mr. Bloom,” Viggo said holding his hand out to the man and frowned when he didn’t shake it. He allowed his hand to fall back to his side. “This is a childhood friend of mine,” Viggo said feeling Sean walk up behind him. “His name is Sean Bean. He’s come up for a short visit before heading back home.”

Viggo didn’t know why he had said all that, he was sure that Orlando’s father could care less about who Sean was. Viggo gave Sean a quick smile hoping that Sean knew how much he appreciated his presence. Sean smiled at Viggo and then nodded slightly to Orlando’s father.

“This is our bishop Jack Oirson,” Yager said nodding to the older man, who reached out and shook first Viggo’s hand then Sean’s. Viggo felt himself relax slightly, but he tried to rack his brain as to why Orlando’s father had come to his home, let alone with a disciple from his church.

“Perhaps we should go somewhere..” Jack said looking over at Sean, “…a little more private before discussing what we came here to speak about.”

Viggo swallowed hard at the thought of being alone with Yager and Jack. He didn’t know what he would do if Sean wasn’t here next to him. He was beginning to get the feeling that Orlando’s father wasn’t here for a social call. “No,” Viggo said slowly. “It’s alright. Anything you have to say to me you can say in front of Sean.”

Viggo thought Jack was about to protest when he heard Sean speak up behind him. “No, Viggo’s right. You’re not going anywhere without me and besides there isn't anything you could say that I don’t already know about Viggo, or lower my opinion of him.”

“Very well then,” Yager snapped at Sean and then glaring at Viggo he hissed. “Stay away from my son!”

Viggo could feel his face and the tips of his ears turn three different shades of red at what Orlando’s father hissed at him. He was ready to open his mouth and bark an angry reply back to him when Jack cut him off.

“What Yager is trying to say Viggo is that this time in Orlando’s life is one of the hardest times a young Amish child goes through. It’s a time when they go out into the English world, if they so choose to do so and test it out. To see if perhaps the Amish world isn’t the place that God means for them to be in.”

Viggo blinked a few times. He already knew that because Orlando had explained all of this to him when he had come over to help him work on the barn. He however was at a loss as to what to say when Sean spoke up.

“If they go out into the world and try it out, then what’s so wrong about Orlando coming by Viggo’s and helping him out once in a while?”

Viggo felt himself flinching at what Sean asked because they both knew that wasn’t what Orlando had been doing. Sure Orlando had been helping Viggo with his barn, but that work had been done long ago. Over the past couple of weeks they hadn’t done anything more then hang out at the house growing closer together. So close in fact it had been leading up to what had happened in the barn and them sleeping together.

“It isn’t the fact that Orlando has been over here, in fact I wouldn’t have even come if Yager hadn’t asked me. It has to do with that fact that we have heard some rumors around town about you Viggo. Though I am not one to put much stock in any rumors myself but mixed with the fact that there or other complications with Orlando, that I am not able to tell you about because the boy himself doesn’t even know about them. Facts that might just pull Orlando away from the Amish church and his family, that would in fact destroy them, as well as Orlando if he were to ever find out about them.”

Viggo bit down on his lower lip so hard that he could taste blood. He held his breath and counted to ten before letting it out. He had no idea what to say, but before he could even think the words just came flying out of his mouth in a low calm whisper. “I would hardly call Orlando a child. Isn’t it true that almost a year ago Orlando was engaged to be married?” Viggo breathed in a deep breath but keep talking before his father or Jack could stop him.

“I could care less if you don’t put stock in rumor or don’t say you judge people. In fact it's really none of my business really. The truth of the matter is that all the rumors you had heard about me are more then likely true and I'm not going to beg for your forgiveness for it. What I do or don’tis between me and whomever made me,” Viggo sighed as he watched Orlando’s father getting more and more angry as he spoke. His hands were no clinched into fists, but Viggo pushed on for himself and for Orlando. He wasn’t going to hide what he was and what he had done, or any of his feelings he might have for Orlando. He had hidden so much of himself for so long from people he had cared and it had almost destroyed him along with the others. He wasn’t about to do that again just because someone didn’t agree with his life.

“The fact is sir, I love Orlando very much. Never have I found someone more caring, more loving then him, even when he shouldn’t be,” Viggo paused to watch Yager, who looked like someone that was ready to take a swing at him. Or might even be thinking about killing him with his own two hands. “I don’t care if you don’t agree with that fact that I love that young man with all my heart. I don’t even care if I’m forbidden to even seen him again. I would in a heart beat if he came here looking for me, but he hasn’t. I haven’t seen nor heard from Orlando in almost three weeks.”

Viggo glanced down at feet, his heart doing a little flip flaps in his chest. Had it really been three weeks from the last time he saw Orlando?’ He knew it was, but everytime he told himself that, he didn’t want to believe it. To Viggo it felt more like a year. He felt the color in his face drain, and his chest throbbed, he had made a mess of things with Orlando and perhaps that hurt him the most, but he pushed on.

“What has or hasn’t happen between Orlando and I is none of your business. But perhaps if you looked past your own hate for your son and asked him, he might tell you. You might even want to offer some compassion for what your own son is going through even if you can’t stand the thought of it,” Viggo sighed feeling himself getting angrier as he talked. He knew that things between Orlando and his father had been strained, that there was some kind of issues there but he hadn’t gotten anything out of Orlando about that. He knew that soon he would have to end things, before he did or said something he shouldn’t.

“As I said Mr. Bloom, I love your son and the only way that I am going to stop seeing him is if Orlando himself tells me that he wants nothing more to do with me..” With that said Viggo turned on his heels and was about ready to walk away when he felt a hand grip his shoulder.

Sean hadn’t heard Viggo speak about anyone with so much passion in his voice, or love on his face, then he did just then speaking about Orlando. He had often seen Viggo confused that he loved someone. But that confusion was always short lived, either by his hand or by the person receiving it.

The words would come too fast from Viggo’s lips. It seemed he put more stock in the feeling of someone in his bed then he did of his heart.

Sean had even been told himself that Viggo loved him once a long time ago. Before it had ever turned physical Sean had put an end to it knowing he had loved Viggo as a friend and nothing more. He didn’t want to put himself or Viggo’s friendship through that kind of a test. Now Sean could tell that this so different then all the other times that Viggo had said he loved someone.

He had doubted in the past few days Viggo’s feelings for Orlando, because he wouldn’t speak about it . Now however seeing Viggo speak to Orlando’s father, Sean could see the love that Viggo had for the boy. The way he spoke left no doubts in Sean’s mind. Viggo loved Orlando and all that Viggo felt now was guilt for not telling Orlando sooner.

All that Sean could do was stand there silently and listen to the painful ache deep inside Viggo’s voice, that the other two man couldn’t hear, because they didn’t know Viggo like he did. There was pain for hurting Orlando so much, and never having the chance to tell him everything that he was telling his father.

As Viggo turned to walk away from the two men Sean could only watch as Yager reached out and grabbed hold of Viggo’s shoulder. Everything turned into a blur as Sean grabbed hold of Yager's hand in a death grip.

“I would strongly suggest that you let go of Viggo,” Sean snarled at the man, his body tensing with anger at the very thought that Yager had the right to touch Viggo, let alone to threaten him. Sean felt his hand tighten over Yager’s and his other hand balling up into a fist. He could seen in Yager’s eyes that he was thinking about punching him and then going after Viggo. Sean wouldn’t allow that to happen, and it seemed as if Jack wouldn’t as his voice cut through the air.

Sean had an idea what the other man said, he was just trying to fight against the overwhelming need to punch Yager square between the eyes. It seemed to him that was just what the man needed to set him straight. To get him to think about what Orlando and Viggo might be going through. He was just about ready to when he felt Viggo’s hand on his own shoulder, a hand that was shaking. He instantly he let go of Yager giving him a slight push back and away from the two of them.

“It’s not worth it,” Viggo said to Sean in a unusually claim voice. “It will not help me and I am more then sure it’s not going to help Orlando. Let’s go back inside Sean, I said all I need to.”

That was all that Sean needed to hear from Viggo he turned and they both made there way to the house lost deep in there own thoughts. Viggo lost in his guilt over what had happened and Sean trying to find a way to help his friend.
