12 OF 12

You know that "thing" that you've always been meaning to do, because it sounds like an amazing amount of WIN, but you just never got around to it? Yeah, I have one of those and this is it...

Chad Darnell started a photo blog called 12 OF 12 and he explains it much better than I do:

"If you did it last year, please join again! If you've never done it before, then now is the time to start!

If you are new to 12 of 12 - here are the basics:

1) ALL PHOTOS MUST BE TAKEN ON THE 12TH OF EACH MONTH.

2) After you post your pictures onto a webpage of your choice (Livejournal, typepad, MySpace, Flickr, etc...) please post the TIME, LOCATION, and A SMALL COMMENT in the pic.

3) You own the rights to all of your pictures. The idea "12 of 12" is mine. While credit is not necessary, please don't credit someone else with the idea.

4) The original concept was at least one body part in the picture. That idea was slowly faded away. The important part is that it are 12 pics.

5) When referring to the project, please refer to it as "12 OF 12" - not "12 ON 12."

6) Once completed, please e-mail or post the PERMALINK of the post AND the city and state or city and country of WHERE THE PICTURES WERE TAKEN. (If you are on vacation, it's where the pics were taken.)

(The permalink is the link to the ENTRY of your page. If you just send me your website, I have to track it down. By listing the permalink, it helps for people to go back and view your previous 12 of 12 entries from previous months.)

ANYONE is welcome to join in, even if you've never done it before! I hope you will.

-C"

MY PICS:

I decided to bring y'all along for one of my ma's appointments to the University of Utah hospital in Salt Lake City, UT on 08-13-09. I left home on 08-12-09 at 7:00 am and picked up ma, took her to Salt Lake, stayed the night, took her to see docs on the 13th, dropped her back off in Ely and then I headed home on the same day (the 13th). Got to Reno around 11:30 pm. For me it's a 1,114 mile round trip in just over 40 hours. I had company on this trip though, my oldest daughter Ashley came along and did about half the driving, which was a nice break and I so enjoy spending time with my girls one on one, so \0/ all the way around!

08-12-09, 7:00 am - Leaving Reno, NV to pick up Mama Hastings in Ely, NV.

8:00 am - Breakfast in Fallon, NV at the Jive -n- Java.

9:00 am - Just outside of Fallon, NV after breakfast.

10:00 am - Highway 50, the loneliest road in America.

11:00 am - Still on Highway 50, two remote SCUD launchers in the middle of no where - you just never know what you're going to see in Nevada.

12:00 pm - Right outside of Austin, NV, looking down Highway 50 - Pony Express country.

1:00 pm - Entering Eureka, NV. It's one of the many active mining towns in nothern NV. They've recently re-opened one of the old gold mines and it's producing well.

2:00 pm - Entering Ely, NV, home to Mama Hastings. Ely is another active mining town.

3:00 pm - Leaving Ely, NV for Salt Lake, UT. These "Elect Anyone Butt Harry Reid" signs are everywhere in Ely. Reid is the democratic senator for NV and is widely reviled. What makes this particular picture so ironic is that my one day-to-be-ex husband's name is Harry S Reid ...(and I'll let y'all fill in the rest of that sentence. *SNORT*)

4:00 pm - Making Mama Hastings smile for the camera. She's actually telling me to turn my ass around and watch the road. Love that mama of mine! We're off Highway 50 (finally) and on 93 at this point.

5:00 pm - Stopping in West Wendover, NV for that ever popular pee break.

6:00 pm - Salt flats along I80 in UT.

7:00 pm - Entering Salt Lake City, UT.

For some reason I'm greatly intrigued by the "Great" Salt Lake and I wonder what in the world convinced Joseph Smith (founder of Salt Lake City) to say, "This is the place!" after coming out of the desert. If I hadn't been so damn tired, I would have pulled off the highway and taken a better picture.

This ends my first 12 OF 12. The pics aren't the greatest, but I'm happy with it and glad that I finally did it.
