'A young Italian priest, named Giovanni-Battista, was very much in love with his boyfriend Paolo. They believed that their love was forbidden by the Church but they hoped it was blessed by God. "If I ever become a bishop," joked Giovanni-Battista, "I must give you up." Then came the terrible day - Giovanni-Battista was made into a bishop. But he said, "Paolo, I love you so much that I can't give you up. But if ever I became a cardinal, I would of course have to do." And then came the sad day when he became the Cardinal Archbishop of Milan. But still, he and Paulo loved each other too much to separate. Finally, and inevitably, Paolo received a heartbroken telephone call from his lifelong boyfriend. "They have made me Pope, darling, but I shall take your name." So he became Pope Paul VI.'
