It's lying on my desk, what would be considered to be a
trinket to people not in the know, is much, much, more important to me. It has
a red outside that keeps both halves together, and is well worn from being on
my keychain for years. The inside is hollow and contains two differently colored
squares. A blue one and a green one. when I first got it I thought they were
presents, now I know that they’re actually more like beads, with a hole going
straight though it and to the other side. it has a plastic latch that although
it has been taken off many times, still holds on quite well.
It’s a star. a star key chain. And from here on in, it will be known as
"Sam's Star. "
It is my most precious possession.
I remember the day that I received it. Me and Sam weren’t the friends we
were now. Actually, I think I bugged her. Quite a bit, actually. I was an
annoying kid. While I was supposed to be doing my work in math, I instead
looked over Sam’s shoulder, and touched her back - knowing damn well that it
would piss her off. And it did, she got mad. By the end of the year, we got closer;
she knew how to piss me off, so I had to lay low, because I knew she would get
here revenge. but I knew we were closer then we were.
I remember seeing that star, hearing it too. it was on her book bag, one of the
ones that go around one shoulder. The fabric looked like something that would be
on black jeans, but much more soft. The inside was a light brown as well. it
was always hooked to where the strap met the actual bag. i never played much
attention to it.
Then one day, she turned around and said "Arthur, i want you to keep this.
Forever."
And I did.
And I will.
This is my most precious possession. i will have it till the day that it
crumbles into a thousand tiny pieces due to stress, and even then, I’ll find a
box for those pieces. It’s that important to me.
