(no subject)

"It should be simple," Elda tells her reflection in the mirror. "It's simply a matter of sneaking around the curse. Plenty of things are enchanted in more than one way."

She flips a few pages in her notes.

"Sophie is quite young, but I think a year at a time would probably be the best way to go. Of course, it wouldn't be ethical to test a spell like this on someone if I don't know it's going to work."

...she tries not to think about what her parents might say to her testing shape changing magic on herself, without any formal schooling in the subject. Elda is quite sure nothing horrifying will happen. And even if it does, she is in a school full of competent magic users. People have changed themselves into silly things before.

"All right, then." She taps the papers to line them up carefully and sets them down.

Elda closes her eyes and concentrates.

The feeling of compression and vertigo catch her off guard, and she squawks in surprise. Except it's less of a squawk and more of a yelp. She sits heavily on the floor and looks up at the mirror from much lower on the ground than before.

"...fiddlesticks."

Elda rather forgot to factor in the fact that Sophie is human, and she is not.

Or at least, she wasn't.
