Aiy an update! I almost feel welcome in LA. The first month was quite horrible as I was put into a unit that was very obviously INFESTED WITH COCKROACHES. Every day was a battle with the abominable little creatures and after waking up face to face with one crawling on my arm, promptly moved out to a temp unit. Now I am in my new unit and so far (it's been over a week now), I have not yet seen one. It was quite an ordeal having to go through every single piece of clothing and taking apart electronics to make sure no bugs or eggs were transferred with me. So far so good....? Please stay away, cockroaches. The Equestrian has a bunch of shitheads for management and I wrote a strong letter about that past month, so they'd better give me some sort of compensation otherwise I am fully prepared to call the health inspector on them. Emotional trauma! Bad sanitation! Chemical soup! Good thing the day job is so pleasant I was abnormally patient and polite to them throughout the whole thing.
So after moving to my new unit nothing was working and they lied straight-faced about having the carpet cleaned. I'm going to have to rent a steamer and have at it over the holidays... the two days I'm going to be here. Going back to Vancouver as a visitor will be interesting... I miss the food and how easy it is to get around. Driving really, really sucks, and I hate being tense the entire time because most LA drivers are completely impatient. They must also be tired and cranky if their commute is anything more than half an hour. Holy!
I am currently missing employee night at Disneyland because of too much work...boo!! But in the end it'll be worth it. Last week I stayed 'till midnight for two nights and came in both days on the weekend... that's more effort than I've given anything for a long time (even college, heh). We're moving to our own cubes in two weeks and I'll be happy to not be in a room with dead air and someone who wears too much fragrance. The trainees had personal meetings with Glen Keane, who is very fatherly and a great teacher. His drawings are so painfully gorgeous in real life... there's something ethereal about them in that you can almost feel the textures he draws - fleshy softness in his girls' faces and the silky coolness of a dress. It's really incredible and perhaps in the future I can ask him for a drawing. He seemed to like my stuff ok and gave me a book called Art and Fear.
The past week my computer went kaputz and it had to go to the Genius bar. Apparently I had burnt my graphics card (cool... and yet not?). It would've cost $1385 to fix!!! Boy I'm glad I got Applecare. I just got it back today and feel like a functioning member of society again, heh.............
Er...what else? Movies? Saw Quantum of Solace - not nearly as good as Casino... Saw Bolt, quite sweet and liked it.... saw Twilight, hated it... and there's probably a half dozen other movies I have yet to see.
Back to work, back to work... still so much to do! Our last major assignment for the year is due this week and our midterm review is the next. It's pretty fun if I can learn to pitch properly! I suck at pitching.
Bye!
