Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt (2010) Anime Series Review

OK that was a lame intro. Anyway, let's just say this super late review is written to celebrate Valentine, and because I feel like writing it. Actually I have been dying to write this ever since I have finished watching the anime back in 2011, but as you know, I was way too lazy. Now what makes me motivated to write this review? Well, recently I have just watched an anime entitled "Kill la Kill"; this is a quite new anime which is still ongoing in Japan. I will be doing a review on this anime later when I have finished watching all the series (again, if I am not too lazy). This anime reminds me of PASWG, although the storyline and characters are very different. But still.
So, to cut it short, let's call this anime PASWG from now on, because the title is way too long. This anime is US-based, although originally aired in Japanese language. It is created by Gainax as an obscene version of The Powerpuff Girls. Except, there are only 2 main girls in PASWG, while PPG has 3 main girls. PASWG was released back in 2010, when I was in my early years of university. I find it very amusing ever since the first episode. It is, by far, the best anime I have ever watched (before I recognize Kill la Kill). Come to think of it, I didn't have lots of experience with watching anime, so I guess my rating is quite subjective. Basically I don't care what others might say, this anime is very entertaining for me. When season 1 has wrapped up, I am dying, hoping for the next season to be released ASAP. 13 episodes surely were not enough to satisfy the fans' thirst. There were rumors of season 2 circulated on the internet, but the fact is Gainax did not seem to prepare any season 2 shortly thereafter. It made me sad, but I believe they made that decision for good. Still, deep in my heart, I am hoping these bitches will make a comeback. Soon.
Panty and Stocking are two angels (the Anarchy sisters), who were kicked out of Heaven due to their bad attitude. They currently stay at Daten City, a city which is always "visited" by evil spirits / monsters (they are called "Ghosts"). Garterbelt is a hentai reverend who watch over them and controlling their lives (remember Charlie's Angels?), while Chuck is their sidekick, a green dog which always suffers from their kicks and punches. They must collect enough Heaven Coins to buy their way back into Heaven by destroying ghosts using their powers. Now here comes the amusing part. Their weapons are actually their own lingerie, which is panty for Panty, and stocking for Stocking. Now if it isn't amusing enough, they have a very "natural" hobby. Panty likes to have sex, and Stocking likes everything which contains sugar (e.g. cake). Another recurring character is Brief or Geekboy, who is always bullied by the angels. He has a crush on Panty, and what a relief the ending is a happy ending for both parties ;)

The best part of this anime is the transformation scene of Panty and Stocking, which is repeated in almost every episode. It is very, very memorable. It is going to stick into your mind from the first time you've seen it. The background music is "Fly Away" by TeddyLoid. The whole soundtrack / score is actually produced by Taku Takahashi of m-flo, so no doubt the music sounds really dreamy. Too bad the Japanese Version CD is too expensive so I resist buying it.

Their enemies are changing in almost every episode, random type of Ghosts who are basically can be slain in just one episode (that is, about 20 minutes). They have "copycats" who are their ultimate enemies, they are Scanty and Kneesocks (the Demon sisters). Unlike Panty and Stocking who bear a normal human look, Scanty and Kneesocks look physically like devils, with red skin and horns. However, they can conceal their appearance while acting as the mayor's daughters in the school.

As for the best episode... I have to re-watch it again. Don't worry, I have downloaded all the episodes just in case. Streaming is not enough when watching this anime. Now, I really, really want to write a very long and concise review. The thing is.... I have partially forgotten the episodes. I want to buy the original DVD but again, it is pretty expensive, and I am afraid it will only rot in my shelves. I am sure it will be a precious investment in the future, but I am still not sure about my decision.

This anime is not for everyone. People with allergies to explicit words and scenes probably will not favor it. There are lots of cursing and sex scenes, which will be very vulgar if portrayed with real-life people. The storyline is fresh and hilarious, and their attitude adds a twist to the plot, which makes it very versatile. I highly recommend watching this anime when you need to laugh or if you wanna learn to seduce boys or u wanna gain fat *OK that was a joke*. Well just watch it. Period.
