3.15.09 Evan Tauberfield / This Providence / The academy is…
Chain Reaction, Anaheim.
Oh my. I’m so ridiculously tired. This is absurd. But okay.
Soo I was trying to prove a point about being able to not get to shows ridiculously early. So I went shopping with my friend and didn’t start out to the venue until 5. Which honestly? Is probably some sort of record for me, won’t even lie. I got there about what? 530 ish? Freaked out about parking, ending parking like two blocks down and four blocks away? I don’t know how to phrase that, but it was far. Lol. So I get up there and there’s a group of girls and I was just finishing my cigarette and found a girl by herself smoking on the other side of the group. They weren’t keen on letting me in on the group and I know I look like I’m 16. I do, but it’s really fucking annoyed to be treated like I’m 16. Lol. So I gradually befriend this girl, her name is Holly and she’s kind of awesome.
We talk about shit. We see Jack. Jack comes over. We talk some more. We wait.
The line starts moving, eventually. We get in and I totally forget that my whole goal was to get a Create New. Destroy Old. Shirt. I fucking love those shirts. I’m so disappointed they only had them in white. Although, it’s somewhat gratifying when the merch guy just grabs the shirt and hands it to you when he makes remarks to the people before and after you, “we only have small”. It shouldn’t be, but it totally is.
Anyway, we get our merch and we go back and get to our spots again.
There is this gigantic dude in front of me, which is beyond frustrating. And I know, it’s not fair for them to be punished and banished to the back cos they’re tall, but it sucks. I can’t helping being really short. : ( So Evan gets on.
I’ll admit. I fully expected to hate him, because I look at him and think avril lavigne, and one of the girls pointed out he was totally in the Ska8ter boi video and I couldn’t stop giggling over it, but he was awesome. Ridiculously, ridiculously, awesome. He had add like nobody’s business, and it was just incredibly endearing. Seriously and his songs are possibly more cheesy than the Maine. I know, I didn’t think it was possible either, but he did it. He mentioned Twister Sister in one chorus, followed by Fleetwood Mac and Tupac in a game of Twister. Yeeeeeeeah. Seriously.
[I just spent an hour trying to figure out the public transportation here and deciding what time I should be leaving later. If there’s a max. 30 dollar parking (which makes me wanna cry) even if I leave here at like 5, I get free parking for 6, 7, 8, so there’s 9, 10, 11. Which would be 21. Which is just about 30, so I might as well get there early. Seriously though, fuck the hob. I miss my trains : ( Dunno what I‘m going to do about hoodwink. I‘m going broke here quick]
Ok. So back on track. Evan was amazing. This Providence was…. I don’t know. There was some songs I knew, which were okay, kind of fun. The guitarist, Gavin, honestly, looks like a hybrid between Singer and Bert McCracken, blew my fucking mind. Their singer looked like Brendon from the That Green Gentleman video. He kind of came off as a huge fucking douche. I’m not really interested in seeing them again.
So then, they start settling up for Tai…
They start putting out these lanterns and then lighting candles… o.O. It was weird. Not gonna lie. Although! I forgot to mention that I’d slipped in front of people before This Prov so the giant was no longer a problem. The push came for Tai and we ended up decently close to the stage. 5th row? Maybe? I could *see* It was awesome. I had space and everything.
So he gets on and he bursts into this silly little…I don’t know what. But then announces we’re going to start with a songalong and bursts in Classifieds. Halfway through he goes ‘FUCK!’ cos his guitar cable cut in and out and he stopped the whole song, got a new cable and jumped back in. He sang … fuck I’m forgetting already. In no particular order, he sang The Test, Seed, His Girl Friday, after the last midtown show, slow down, attention, down and out, working class hero, a Sunday by Jimmy Eat World with the help of Evan and Dan, Chislett came out for 40 steps. Sisky for Rumored Nights, about a girl, which they closed with.
(ahhhhhhhhh holy fuck I just killed my first spider. He was crawling on the wall by my bed. Fucking hell. I hate living alone sometimes. Not fun!!! Now I really can’t sleep. Awesome. Lol there‘s a huge shoe print on my wall now).
It was really good. He was really adorable. I don’t know what it was, but all the bands had serious add-issues and it lead to some of the most amusing between song rambling ever. I’m not convinced Will knew what he was talking about 90% of the time.
So we’re going to leave and this voice comes over the loud speaker, “The academy is… is doing a signing in 20 minutes. Go back to where you lined up to get in, you have 20 minutes to buy your merch”.
…Well, then.
Naturally we go and stand back in line, and literally we walked in and three people after us, he called it. “No more!”
O.O Holy shit man.
I won’t even lie - this is only the second time I’ve met them.
So we’re like freaking out and Im ducking and hiding from the This Providence guys cos they’re trying to shove their cd down your throat for 10 bucks and I’m just not interested. You know? I already said no once and I felt bad. But then so I really wanted a picture/autograph from Evan.
So he finaaaaallly gets to us and Holly’s all ‘hey I wanna pet you’ and he gets all O.O and she does and he makes a joke about being led off in a collar and sort of eases his way away. : ( Sad. I didn’t get my Evan picture.
Little matter as Sisky & Will are now in sight and we’re discussing what not to do as we watch girls start calm and end up wrecks by Will.
We get to Sisky and we get our high-fives and chitchat and get our pictures and everything and I love him. He’s just adorable. He tried to be all ’hey! I’ve met you before.’ to this girl and she was all ’um I’ve never seen you before’ and he started banging his head on the table. He sang a song about getting sick, which is why I’m guessing it was the William Beckett show, and it was just cool. He’s chill.
Will is fucking intimidating. Although, he seems a lot shorter when he’s behind a table and leaning over ; ) Much appreciated.
I got a paragraph on how humans adept cos that’s what we do and I … *goo* man. I cannot… his *eyes*. I try so hard not to fan girl, but seriously, cannot hold a conversation with that man. Too much pretty and it’s just funny cos he’s so *Will*. Taking himself so seriously and everything comes out so poetically, it’s weird. Awesome, but … fuck. I really don’t remember much of our conversation, but he took his time with every one. They were screaming at us. “Ten minutes. Hurry it up. You’ve got ten mins to get your autographs” before we even got to sisky. And he was all don’t even worry about it, we’ll make it happen, even if we’re chilling in the parking lot all night. It was so beyond awesome.
I wish I could have written more but it’s going on 230 already and I have a busy day tomorrow. I guess I should leave at a more reasonable time. I just… I’m only going for Every avenue, if I could get as close as I can, I might survive the pit for them. >.>
