As if GaneshaFest wasn't enough, this past weekend also saw the start of
Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting.
India is generally considered to be a "non-Hindu state;" which doesn't mean anti-Hindu, (that wouldn't make any sense) but rather a place where all religions are equal in standing.
For perspective, India's population is about 80% Hindu, 13% Muslim, and 3%
Sikh. There are also dribs abd drabs of Buddhists, Jainists, Christians, and Jews.
The rain finally stopped for a while; not that it did anything for my mood. While I'm not homesick in the sense where I'm depressed and angry and resentful, (been there, done that) I am ready to come home.
This weekend, Golconda Fort for sure. Still a chance of rain, but I've learned that the weather has habits here, not unlike Florida's goofy precipitation. Mornings are more likely to be clear than afternoons, and rain, if it's going to happen, is often polite enough to wait until after lunchtime to happen. It's true!
