(during an ad for Heroes)
Boom-Boom: I can't wait for that show. I think it's going to be great.
me: Stupid name, tho.
Boom-Boom: It is not. Shut up.
me: Okay, it's not stupid. It's simplistic.
Boom-Boom: So?
me: So, it sounds as if they couldn't come up with anything better.
Boom-Boom: It's just simple.
me: It's simplistic. "Lost" is simple. "Heroes" is oversimple. No shit, it's about superheroes, tell me something I don't know.
Boom-Boom: Well, no shit, they're lost on Lost.
me: That's different, I think. That's an abstract, an overarching idea. Something like "Heroes" or "Friends" is too generalized. It sounds too much like it was marketed towards the lowest common denominator of an audience, which is insulting. You may as well call a show "Beer" or "Socks" or "Numbers."
Boom-Boom: ...
Boom-Boom: Friends was the best show ever.
me: !!!
me: Excuse me?! Anyone worth their own weight in shit knows that the best television show ever in the history of everything was Mister Ed.
EDIT:
"It's not called Lost because they're lost. It's called Lost because the audience can't follow it." (from
