Election day recap

Nov 05, 2008 14:41

Yesterday was cool. I tapped the voting address into Sylvia and headed... above Ruby Ave? (When did they build houses up there?) I was in and out in under ten minutes. Since I registered so late, I didn't get a sample ballot. Luckily I researched all the propositions online and had a cheat sheet with me. I pondered the consequences of highlighting the blank opponent square of someone running uncontested. I headed back home and checked email. C was cleaning out her apartment and giving a bunch of stuff away. I made plans to swing by her place and pick stuff up after work. When I got to work that day I saw the dreaded "Meeting tonight @ 8:00 PM" sign. FUCK! I told my manager about my plans to go to San Mateo, and then go to Santa Clara and that there was no way I could make this meeting. She said it was cool; she just wanted to verify schedules (Which I had already done) and don't worry about it.

I tried like hell to get out on time, but the center director kept coming up with baby-sitting tasks that ate into my prep time. After the third time, I told her that I was trying to get out of there by 6:00 and it was already 6:20. She left me alone after that (Something her predecessor wouldn't have done.) and I finished up my remaining binders (most of which are going away) in near-record time.

I bounced up to C's and caught her just as she was finalizing the deal on her car. Then I hit the mother lode. A toaster oven, a laptop computer, a desktop computer, a printer, a queen sized sheet set (Currently in the dryer), a queen sized comforter taken right off her bed (No, I didn't sleep with it last night.), two cookie jars (The main reason I was up there in the first place, and various other knickknacks and toys. Before we crammed my car full, I gave her a ride to the voting place and saw a group of "Yes on 8" enthusiasts picketing on the side of the street. I was tempted to swerve, but my insurance is high enough as it is. She was in and out in less time than I was (being as hers was computerized). We headed back, loaded up the rest of the stuff and I headed off to T's to watch the election. It was already over by the time I got there. S1, S2 were there as well. Over 50% of everything I voted for went the way I wanted... except for Prop 8 (and 3, 5, 11 and 12). I just keep on remembering the "Yes on 8" ad that kept on saying "four judges ignored 4 million people and imposed... (blah, blah, blah)" Looking at the results, it seems as if the "Yes on 8" vote is ignoring 4.8 million people. I just don't get it. I headed home late after hanging out. The car is mostly unpacked (I still need to clean it out of my shit.) and I'm off to work and then the munch.
