I spent two hours walking two and from the nearest hardware store to pick up a C-clamp around midday. Once I got home, I took an hour to recover (I was a bit dehydrated.) and got to work on the brakes. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I started in on the left one (The one that didn't throw the pad.) and my only problem was maneuvering the outer pad into place. Once I got that down, I took a look at the one on the right. I now understand what happened. The inner brake pad had worn down to the nub and was ejected out. When I applied the brake, the cylinder had nothing to push against... except the rotor. Luckily I was kinda good about keeping my speed down, using the emergency brake and keeping off the actual brakes when the incident occurred. I only need to replace the rotor as there wasn't much damage to the cylinder. I'm kicking myself a little for not doing it sooner since it ended up being so easy. I guess I was worried about something going wrong and having to get a lift somewhere. So now I'm in the market for two new rotors. The pricing I did online showed them to be about $30 apiece. We'll see how the commute to work goes tomorrow.
As for the damage to me, two hours in the sun gave me a nice burn on the back of my neck and four thick blisters on my left foot. I did get a little endorphin buzz toward the end of my trek, but I was too tired to enjoy it. So the burn has some aloe on it, I took a painkiller cocktail to combat the soreness in my legs and the blisters have been drained and bandaged.
Also, over the past few days, I saw a couple of movies.
The Bank Job: Pretty cool. Not Jason Statham's hottest role, but still pretty spiffy.
Wristcutters: A Love Story: Very out there, but easy to follow at the same time. I liked seeing Shannyn Sossamon constantly questioning authority.
The Ruins: Yeah, I don't get horror anymore. It's all about the gore and the blood and the "Here, look at something else that's icky." The story was predictable, as usual. Ah, if only the Mayans had known about pesticides.... or napalm.
