I watched "21" a while back and kinda saw the ending coming. The process of counting cards confused me a bit. In "Rainman" they made the comment that "no one can count into a six-deck shoe" but the counting in "21" seemed to track everything pretty well. Every card is either +1, 0, or -1. Changing the number of decks would only raise the target number, right? I dunno, I'm more into craps anyway. Decent movie though and am I the only one that finds Jim Sturgess pretty hot?
Today I watched "The Man from Earth" and fucking loved it. Synopsis from Netflix: "Renowned sci-fi writer Jerome Bixby penned the script for this thought-provoking film starring David Lee Smith as John Oldman, a college professor who reveals to his colleagues that he's actually a centuries-old caveman. And so begins a captivating philosophical meditation on immortality, the last work from screenwriter Bixby, who earned career accolades for his contributions to such genre-defining shows as 'Star Trek' and 'The Twilight Zone.'" I loved it from beginning to end. The picture got a little grainy in some parts but I was able to look past that. William Katt and Tony Todd both looked spectacular (I don't know *why* I'm focusing on all the guys in these movies, but they *were* pretty hot.) and it was a great movie that really got me thinking about how we see the world. Would make for some great discussion, drunken or sober.
I keep on forgetting how easy it is to rip music on my computer now. I went down to another library and got even more CDs this time. The automated check out is my new best friend.
I also swung by Luckys and scored a cheap flavored drink and a corn dog. Being broke like this has really caused me to cut down on how much I eat. I know starvation is the worst thing I can do, so I'm focusing on finding cheap and healthy things to eat. Thanks to an old rice maker I discovered, I've been having some pretty filling meals at home.
I showed up at the munch a bit early and perused some of the CDs I had picked up. No water works from those (Little Shop of Horrors really got me going.), thank goodness. Our usual server wasn't there, so service was shitty. Guess that's the downside of having such a rockingly huge group. Got to meet some newbies and oldies (but new to me). Very cool all around. If I wasn't so frelling tired from being sick and not getting enough sleep, I would've stuck around a while longer. But there's always next week.... hell, I just have to wait until Friday. I might skip the movie though, will have to see about finances. And I must remember TNG tomorrow. Hopefully I can find the entrance to the dungeon this time.
